    Hole in Floor

Found some other threads on this topic. It's a lot easier to find them now I know that the trench is a wall cavity! https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/door-threshold-and-cavity-wall.239249/ https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/patio-door-threshold.482789/ The advice is the same as Chuds, ie line...

    Hole in Floor

I hoovered out the 'trench' to get a better look. I guess the blue poking out of the floor is a DPM and the black line on the external wall is a DPC. Should I paint liquid DPM from the blue DPM, through the trench and up to the external wall to the DPC?

    Hole in Floor

It looks like it was previously just an exterior wall that was knocked through. So the trench is actually the cavity as Chud says. I'll do a bit more googling but it seems that if I apply the dpc incorrectly I could end up making it worse.

    Hole in Floor

I have the floor up ready for the tiler on Monday. There's quite a deep hole near the patio doors though which I guess I should fill now so it's set in time for tiling. Shall I just fill with concrete up to the floor level? Do I need to worry about damp proofing or anything like that? There's...

    Air Lock in Mixer Shower

Yeah all good since making sure all gates were fully open. Thanks Terry.

    Air Lock in Mixer Shower

I'm so happy the shower is working again. It's the best shower I've ever had by a mile so was gutted when I broke it. The cold water tank is fine now too, it's 75% full.

    Air Lock in Mixer Shower

Hi, no I did not turn off the stop cock or drain out any cold water whilst working on the leak on the hot pipe. I'll look into why the loft tank is so low on water but my feeling is that the float valve has been set low due to the difficulty in accessing the tank.

    Air Lock in Mixer Shower

Mate I think you've cracked it. When I reopened the gate valves I was scared to damage them so didn't force them. I've checked again and the one that connects to the base of the HW Cylinder is indeed not fully open. Opened it now and will do some more testing. Will remember to count the turns...

    Air Lock in Mixer Shower

Yes that's right. I couldn't reach to tie up the float valve, so I closed those gate valves in the picture. When fixing the leak, I didn't have to drain out all the water. Hardly any water came out because I'd created an air lock. Wasn't expecting it to cause this much grief though!

    Air Lock in Mixer Shower

It's an odd house but yes the tank is sort of in the loft. It's not possible to see into it, but if I poke a stick into it it does seem low, only about a third full. Not sure I can bend the float valve though (assuming there is one). The tank is only a few inches from the roof and a few inches...

    Air Lock in Mixer Shower

The cold is fine. I've not had any issues with cold at any outlet. The hot is still not right though. With the shower on cold it works normally but on hot it's still spluttering. The hot on the bath is doing it too. Since its just the upstairs shower and downstairs bath that have the problem...

    Air Lock in Mixer Shower

Thanks for your help. The hot spluttered but does seem to be flowing nicely now. I'll reassemble and let you know.

    Air Lock in Mixer Shower

Looks like I could isolate at the pump.

    Air Lock in Mixer Shower

Yes it's a horizontal bar. There are no visible isolation valves on the shower. Could be some behind the tiles I guess.

    Air Lock in Mixer Shower

I had to drain down the hot water to fix a leaking isolation valve. It's an open vented system with an oil boiler. All outlets were spluttering afetrwards. The mixer taps were easily fixed by covering and forcing the cold water up the hot. There is a downstairs bath with a mixer that was...

    Moving Alarm

I only have the user code, not the engineer code. The previous owner did not leave it, perhaps the installer knows it (there's some paperwork that I think is from the installer) I took the front cover off and can see there are 2 connections. The power one to the FCU and a white wire that goes...

    Moving Alarm

Hi, Is it straighforward to move one of these? It's at an awkward height at the moment, if it was lower it could sit between the wall unit and base unit. Or perhaps if it was higher I could incorporate it inside a wall unit. I can only see 1 wire coming out of the back, presumably to the FCU...

    Double Glazing Quotes

Hi, I had some quotes to install double glazing, 2 patio doors and a front door. I have narrowed it down to two which are very similar. They are both local, family businesses, fensa registered and in both cases the guys that showed up are the ones that will do the install (and I liked them...

    Cold Water Tank Overflowing

I'll have to go and look. Am I looking for a white (or red) item like this? Will it be inside the valve mechanism or easily visible?

Difficult to get a photo due to the awkward space and light but its one of these:
