Gas Safety Inspection -date of Expiry/ date of Issue ??

But why should keep losing week/weeks of validity each year ?? I'm not the landlord, I'm the tenant. I want to have gas inspections as little possible. If you lost a week's validity here or there on things in your house, your car, things you use, I'm sure you'd prefer this didn't happen...

Gas Safety Inspection -date of Expiry/ date of Issue ??

When an MOT is done up to month before current MOT, the date of expiry of new MOT can be put down as expiry date of old MOT, so you don't lose a period of validity. Is this the same with boiler Gas Safety Inspections ?? My inspection was a week before expiry of current certificate...

Can you get old/new BC Splitters anywhere ?? Jack S.

    Light socket -adding more bulbs

I always thought there used to be a plug & cable adapter, you could plug into BC socket to tap off power - I guess this was a BC splitter. Probably discontinued/made illegal so people can't run appliances off (& overload) their light sockets !! Jack S.

    Light socket -adding more bulbs

Amazing, obviously some nutter has already thought of a solution. The Hamster: 9 lamps into 1 BC socket using a hamster ball !! Along the right lines, I have thought of wiring up my own adapter. I have thought of making up my own adapter for 2-3 lamps, to plug into a BC light socket...

I don't want to install this type of fluorescent strip light. I want to use current BC light socket supplying 2 bulbs. Thanks Jack S.

    Light socket -adding more bulbs

I use a 150W filament light bulb in a room because it gives the brightness/illumination I want. But it uses a lot of power. I have tried using energy saving fluourescent bulbs (20W~100w equiv. & 23W~120W equiv.), but they don't give the same brightness. I would like to plug 2x 20W...

Dripping Taps & Seat Insert (3/8" washer)

I inserted seat insert into leaking tap & it is working ok. Although this tap uses 3/8" washer, the seat hole was 1/2", so I was able to use the 1/2" Full Stop seat insert. Considering how big the cut in the seat was, I think the insert is doing a good job. Jack S.

Dripping Taps & Seat Insert (3/8" washer)

Didn't know about those. Put these on, can turn main water supply back on if necessary, replace taps, connect flexi hose & no messing with copper tube. Thanks Jack S.

Dripping Taps & Seat Insert (3/8" washer)

I would change the taps, but main water valve also controls supply to maisonette above. If it only supplied me I could take as long as I want fitting new taps. The taps don't have their own supply valves & currently only copper tubing, not flexible couplings. I'm no expert plumber &...

Dripping Taps & Seat Insert (3/8" washer)

My tap (uses 3/8" washer) is dripping because it has a deep cut in the seat. I have recut the seat a number of times with a reseating tool, but it does not stop the drip. I was thinking of using the "Full Stop" seat insert you can buy. I bought 1/2" seat inserts but have now just realised...

Ceilings -how are they fixed ? Anyone know ?

Sometimes there isn't time, particularly if the ceiling is falling down !! I spent a week drying out various possessions, while people upstairs worried about their "laminate flooring" and making insurance claim. I know where I'd like to put their Laminate Flooring !! Jack S.

Ceilings -how are they fixed ??

I've just realised what I think it is/looks like, 3-5mm Hardboard. (doesn't look like the thicker/heavier chipboard). -I couldn't think of the right word. I have restuck ceiling paper back. I should have thought of pushing screw driver up to test beforehand. (I started wondering about...

I've just realised what I think it is/looks like, 3-5mm Hardboard. (doesn't look like the thicker/heavier chipboard). -I couldn't think of the right word. The board above the ceiling plasterboard did not look old. When pushing up screws to screw in, it felt like this board was flexing...

Ceilings -how are they fixed ??

I've used some No10 x 4" chipboard screws with washers to pull up the hanging plasterboard in a few places. They screwed in ok & I didn't know where joists were. I picked random places to screw in. I don't think chipboard screws would hold in plasterboard, so that makes me think the...
