    Lead gas pipe to copper

Thanks for your fast replies. He wanted an extra £130 to replace with copper with me removing several floorboards to feed 15mm pipe through. I would have to remove the skirting board which has been drilled through for the connection to be made and hidden. My worry is that the dining room must...

    Lead gas pipe to copper

Had a new fire surround and marble hearth and back panel installed on Friday and had our existing gas fire fitted at the same time. I agreed a price in the shop for all for pipework to be hidden under the hearth and floor, but the existing gas feed to the chrome tap next to the fireplace was...

low power aerial signals when sky box in standby

I've been a TV engineer for 39 years and have a perplexing problem at home I can't seem to resolve. I'm decorating the lounge and used to have a sky coax cable and aerial coax cable directly through the wall into the sky box and TV.(Philips 26PF7521D/10) No RF leads used. I've decided to fit a...

Panasonic TX-W28D2DP - takes ages for the picture to appear

If you increase the screen volts (make a note of position to reset it afterwards) while the picture is blank and you get a blank grey raster it is nothing to do with the heaters. It is due to the tube ageing and taking longer for the luminance circuitry to detect the picture. It will gradually...

32" LCD TV constant flickering screen, any ideas?

You don't say what make it is but could be a bad connection on the Inverter pcb. Some sets have a Master and Slave set up with two boards. It could be a small surface mount IC burnt or one of the chokes with a burnt pin. Either way, you will have to get a new panel.

    Mixing Inhibitors

Can you mix Fernox or Sentinel with an existing inhibitor to maintain strength or do you have to drain and refill? Sinc adding a radiator, I have used Wickes inhibitor in my system and have read on here not to use "own makes"

32" LCD TV constant flickering screen, any ideas?

Check for swollen electrolytic capacitors in the power supply on the secondary side.

    Toshiba 15VL56B No picture

It sounds like the Inverter is faulty. That's the circuit that provides a high voltage for the fluorescent tubes to light. There may be a small white surface mounted fuse gone open circuit on the PCB. I think this is a low voltage input model so it's unlikely to be due to swollen capacitors in...

Samsung LCD TV - Screen died

Mountainwalker: If you buy from John Lewis you get a free 5yr guarantee on all sets. I do not work for John Lewis and am not associated with them in any way. 5-6 years is about the life of a LCD TV. Plasma can go before that and are more likely to have screen burn from static images. I have...

Samsung LCD TV - Screen died

I've got a LE40R738DX/XEU on the bench at the moment. Same problem, T-Conn board not available as a spare. Trade price of new screen is £475.54 + VAT + £40 courier charge!! Set was bought in 2006. Unfortunately I can't find a spare from a scrap screen anywhere.

Samsung LCD TV - Screen died

Either the screen needs replacing or the T-con driver board which sits at the top of the screen on the rear is faulty. Sometimes they are available as a spare part, other times you have to buy a complete screen and T-con board together. The T-con board ribbon connectors are very fragile and...

    toshiba plasma television

The best screen cleaner I have found is available from Charles Hyde and Son Ltd order code 610170. Spray it on when the screen is cold and use a clean microfibre cloth order code 9072749. I've been a Toshiba dealer for over 20 years and I don't think they ever made a Plasma TV. If they did we...

    Vulcan Continental boiler

I made a mistake about our HW 'cos there is a three way manually operated valve to switch betwenn HW or CH or both so it is pumped. Thanks for your input. I think I'll get some quotes. I know the initial outlay will be high but we don't intend moving so should get our money back eventually...

    Vulcan Continental boiler

Thanks keego and Agile for your comments. The HW is gravity fed. Would I have to change to pumped HW if I went for a wall mounted boiler? Would I really save 50% on gas by changing? If so it makes more economic sense to upgrade.

    Vulcan Continental boiler

I have a 29 year old Vulcan Continental boiler on a standard open vented system, and a few years ago a plumber came to service it because the pilot light kept going out. He couldn't get a new part so left it with a 3" pilot light flame and it's been working OK ever since. Last weekend, because...

    freeview

You wont get any Freeview channels off any satellite as Freeview is terrestrial only. Off Sky you get Sky Freesat and the other is freesat. Note the small "f" on freesat. They are totally separate and you need two separate receiving boxes to receive them and two dishes or an LNB with two outputs.

    Interference on freeview

Radar interference usually manifests as a series of white flashes for a split second every 4-7 seconds as the dish rotates. You only get the problem when the dish is momentarily pointing at your aerial. If you have anything wrong with the analogue signal then when it comes to digital reception...
