Many thanks again, We specialize mainly in commercial work. We have to do the whole commercial and domestic scope , at renewal time it takes 2 weeks to get through it all. Dont you find the catering regs to be the most confusing out of everything, theres so many different dates to remember...

Teledyne Laars Lite 2 Pool Boiler

I am aware of what thermopiles are, in fact they are fitted to a lot of commercial appliances i,e. Fryers/catering in general, Storage water heaters, Laundry equipment etc. So not a stranger to them just wasn't sure what is should expect on this particular appliance, no mi's on site. James

Teledyne Laars Lite 2 Pool Boiler

It uses a variation of the red/white button honeywell gas valve, I could only read around 2 millivolts. New thermopile then I think. James

    glowworm 24ci problem

Have you checked the pressure relief valve, to see if its letting by. The pipe that goes outside. When you refill it's normal for water to come out, it comes out a small nozzle that looks like it should have a cap on it but glowworm say that is how its supposed to be. James

Teledyne Laars Lite 2 Pool Boiler

Just a quick one does anyone happen to know the voltage that i should expect to be generated by the pilot generator/thermopile on the above boiler. I don't mean the thermocouple, and yes I do hold the relevant acs certificates to work on these appliances. Many thanks James

    Biasi Boiler 24s

All these fixed fees of £84 makes me wonder how you people possibly make any money our labour rates for non-contract customers start at £174 an hour with a minimum of 1 hr charged. By the way sounds like a possible gas valve fault, at which point in its sequence does it trip. James

    glowowm spacesaver wont light.

First thing have you got gas, any other appliances you can check to make sure i,e cooker, fire. If you have gas then it sounds like a blocked pilot or spark electrode incorrectly aligned. It either needs a clean out, or realigning. Attempt at you own peril but best to get a qualified...

Gas pressure falling and cooker affected when heating on

When the new boiler was installed, was a new gas pipe ran from the meter to the boiler. Modern condensing boilers use more gas so if he just reused the existing pipe, when the boiler was running it would cause the pressure to the cooker to drop. How long is the run of pipework from meter to...

Peoples opinions of Broag boilers ?

Broag boiler have been around for years, mainly in the commercial market though. They have always been a big player, there domestic boilers have been out for quite a while in europe. I really rate them and not just because i work on them, it doesn't affect me in anyway if i slag them or rate...

pilot light goes out after gas control knob is turned

Thermocouples seem to be like lightbulbs, some last for ever, some don't. The factory fitted originals last the longest to ensure no warranty issues, i personally change thermocouples at every service unless its still the factory original. James

Peoples opinions of Broag boilers ?

As a company we are Broag's main commisioning and warranty agent for both there domestic and commercial boilers. I think they are brilliant boilers only real problems we have had are when plumbers have messed with wiring, i'll be changing my boiler for one soon. James

Unsafe situations and dealing with customers

My employer backed me all the way, in this issue and agreed with every decision i made. Just because its a big customer doesn't mean they are exempt from the regs and procedures. James

Unsafe situations and dealing with customers

The owners of the said chain were also trying to explain to the pub landlord that it needs to be made safe, they were trying to reason with him. The chain were very insistive to me that i dont leave before making it safe but still he wouldnt allow me. When you deal with big national...

    Condensing boilers..... or not?

In most cases it is required by law now to fit a high efficency boiler, the regs dont say theyhave to be condensing but have to have a certain efficency rating which almost always means condensing anyway. This applies in all domestic premises at the moment. James

Unsafe situations and dealing with customers

The best bit is you always get the same response "its been like that for years" Do you work on a lot of pool boilers, do you find the cost for parts a bit excessive, last one i worked on i was quoted about £55 for a thermocouple. This particular boiler had a thermopile as well so god knows...

Unsafe situations and dealing with customers

Just wondering what the worst reaction people have had when dealing with an ID or AR situation was. Mine was recently when dealing with a landlord of a pub. The pub is owned by a large brewery that we have a national contract with to service and maintain all there gas equipment, fires...
