    Shower upgrade, MCB rating?

It does give figures of 9kw@230v as well, but also says it requires a 45A MCB, which is what confused me. The shower MCB is part of a group protected by a 30mA RCD. So even if I wanted to replace the MCB, I can't do it without paying building control to inspect?

    Shower upgrade, MCB rating?

Having said that, will a type B MK 45A fit as a direct swap or are they incompatible with Starbreaker consumer units?

    Shower upgrade, MCB rating?

Hello all, We're upgrading our shower from an 8.5kW to a 9.8kW (@240v). Consumer unit currently uses a 40A Crabtree MCB (61/B40) and wiring is 10mm with no more than a 6m run, surface clipped. Crabtree don't make a 45A replacement, which is the rating advised in the shower manual. Will the...

    Shower Room Drylining help

Why not 8x4 moisture resistant plasterboard? No horizontal joints required, screw them on floor to ceiling. You could then go belt and braces and use a tanking kit around the wet area. Mapei waterproofing kit is on sale just now at Screwfix at £40, comes with tape and jointing compound. Tile...

    Recommend a plumber in Birmingham?

Not sure if it's allowed on the forum, but can anyone recommend a plumber in Birmingham (I'm in B34) to extend pipework and fit supplied basin, bath and electric shower above? New to the area and don't really know anyone to ask. Many thanks.

Brown patches round edge of Lawn?

So the concrete strip has no depth at all? When you say topped with sand, how much sand? It just sounds like it's a bit dry. If it has serious problems with thatch this could be promoting shallow root growth. Rake some of the thatch out, fertilise, consider aerating and brushing in a top...

Brown patches round edge of Lawn?

You're right, overfeeding could lead to scorching of the grass. I see miraclegrow lawn treatments as merely a booster, it shouldn't be used all the time to force a lawn to grow. A haunch is just a concrete foundation packed against the side of the edging to stop it moving. It would usually...

Brown patches round edge of Lawn?

Is that a concrete edging just under the hedge there? Does it have a significant concrete haunch? If so there might not be enough soil under the edge of the turf and it's draining off far too fast and is baking in the warm weather. If it doesn't get any direct sunlight, being at the base of a...

Fill a large hole in the garden !!

I've never shifted that much spoil by hand, no! I don't mean to sound like it's the easiest thing in the world, it's not, it's a bloody stupid idea, but if you want it filled and have no access, how else do you do it, other than have a conveyor system as described above? My 90 tonne figure is...

Fill a large hole in the garden !!

Yup, about 90 for loose, moist soil. And why am I insane? He would prefer it filled, I was offering an option. It was never going to be cheap or easy, it's a lot of dirt, about 2000 barrow loads. If there's no access what good is a narrow digger if the fill is in a pile at the front of the...

Fill a large hole in the garden !!

Yeah, they can be useful. Will carry 3 or 4 barrow loads but they don't travel as fast so I don't imagine they'd move much more material in the same time as a labourer. Barrows shuttling to and fro being loaded quickly by a mini digger would probably be the best way to go.

Fill a large hole in the garden !!

If there is absolutely no way to get a tipper into the garden to dump directly into the void then hire a couple of labourers and get them to barrow the whole lot. Consider first if you can maybe take down walls or fencing or access over someone elses land and pay to repair any damage. Get a mini...

    Corner of garden getting waterlogged

If the land beyond the wall is not yours you can't drain onto it so you have to channel the water somewhere else or contain the water and allow it time to soak away. You could dig a trench and backfill it with gravel. Beware of digging big holes next to wall foundations. If you have heavy...

    Driveway construction method

Sounds fine. I wouldn't say type1 is impermeable, though. Type 3 will certainly drain faster but only as far as the sub grade. I would suggest using cellular paving as it's brilliant and stops the top decorative aggregate floating around all over the place, rutting and mixing with sub-base...

Roundup is about as good as you'll get. Remember it takes time to work (up to 3 weeks!) as it acts on the roots.

Can I correct a bad garage floor with paving slabs?

The source of any damp needs to be identified before you can remedy it. Where is the damp proof course in relation to the garage floor? If it's not coming in through the walls and is definitely coming up through the floor then ideally you would dig it out and install dpm, insulation and a...

    25W instead of 20W?

Hello all, We have a new ceiling light fitting that originally came with four G9 20W halogen bulbs. Is it perfectly safe to replace them with 25W bulbs which are, for some reason, much, much cheaper? Thanks Jim
