Whats the trick when cutting in..

I cut in as I go, and roll out the brush strokes leaving maybe half an inch round the edges. 2 coats always evens out any colour difference left by different thickness of paint applied by the brush. The only thing you have to watch for is extra paint rolling off the edge of the brush too close...

    Driveway and Dropped Kerb

Ask if they'll be good enough to fax it over straight away. Mine got 'lost' somewhere between Dropped Kerbs Dept. and the mailing room!

    Best cable detector available

I got the Bosch dmf zoom, and it was very good. It performs better in detecting cables/wires if there's no current running through them, or so I found. ie. it's detecting the metal and not the current, which tends to be inaccurate.

    Pneumatic dual flush won't half-flush

It saves a lot of water over the course of a year. You don't need to dump 6 litres of water down the pan with every number one!

    Pneumatic dual flush won't half-flush

I have a pneumatic dual flush mechanism (Mark Vitow) that won't give a half flush. Despite adjusting it every way I can it empties the cistern whatever I do. Is there a trick to it? Is it faulty? Or is it just crap!? Thanks.

    Wallpapering gone wrong

If you do it again, first try steaming the edges to soften them up and try and stick them down. If it doesn't work just steam off the paper and hang it again. Using a border will look daft, it might be a pain to do it again but you'll be glad you did it properly.

    Spirit Levels

What is it that makes the ForgeSteel ones so bad? I bought the pack from screwfix and it seems fine to me, as a DIYer, but then it was my first ever purchase of a spirit level, so I guess I don't know what I'm looking for! It seemed like a good deal, as I needed a small one but also a larger...

Lining Paper Woes...cant fill the gaps!!!

Get some of this... http://www.duluxdecoratorcentre.co.uk/servlet/ProductHandler?code=DDC300046 I guarantee you it is the perfect stuff for the job. I rave it about it all the time since someone recommended it to me. I have also used it to fill any small gaps in lining paper. It's like a...

    digging a driveway

There are loads of adverts on ebay for digger and driver hire. Depending where you are, it'll be around £150 for an 8 hour day.

    Driveway and Dropped Kerb

You should get the quote pretty quickly, they're good and fast at taking money remember. I'm not sure how it works with the approved contractors. You still have to pay the council fees and you don't get your quotation fee refunded if you use anyone other than the council. So a contractor will...

    Driveway and Dropped Kerb

SALL2009... Is your LA Birmingham? If so, don't hold your breath. We waited over 2 weeks for the quote, which we accepted, and we were told 6-8 weeks for the work to be completed. End of week 8 I called them for an update, they said they have only just sent the instruction to the contractor...

Bricking up fireplace prior to gas fire installation

It was a bit of a guess to be honest. It's probably going to be more expensive. The fire was £200.

Bricking up fireplace prior to gas fire installation

It's almost irrelevent that it produces any heat at all. The flame effect would probably be worth it on its own!

Bricking up fireplace prior to gas fire installation

Well, we wanted gas, not electric, but the breast isn't really big enough to accommodate a traditional hearth and surround. The wall hung ones look very modern, so suit the decor. The Cheshire, including installation, will probably come to £300-ish, which is cheap compared to any hearth/surround...

Bricking up fireplace prior to gas fire installation

It's louvred masonry. I assume it is the same as a broken one I have removed from an upstairs cupboard, and appears to be made of plaster. For what reason would it be unsuitable? EDIT: on the outside it is the terracota, 'waffle' type.

Bricking up fireplace prior to gas fire installation

The fire is a Focalpoint Cheshire. There will of course be a CO detector fitted nearby. A vent already exists in the back wall which, from memory, is at least 7"x5", maybe a bit larger. It can't be closed, only bricked up, and I've actively avoided this, decorating around it, for the sole...

Bricking up fireplace prior to gas fire installation

No, it'll be fitted by a professional. It's a pain because we'll need him in twice, once to extend the pipe, then I'll brick up the fireplace, then again to fit the fire. 2x call out charges :( What nonsense can I expect from the anti-flueless brigade, expertgasman? Do they have a bad...

Access hatch on wall hung wc's

I meant basically any fitting to a cistern. I'm fitting a concealed cistern next week and I'll be putting in siliconed tiles for access to the flush pipe. I found something which may be yours at diy.com, and it doesn't look like it has a screw/o-ring connection, is it permanently solvent...

Access hatch on wall hung wc's

Access to any fitting is always desirable. What happens if it leaks? You don't want to tear the wall down. I can't see the unit as your link doesn't work. Plaster board is fine, use a thick one so it doesn't flex any. And remember not to PVA it first or the tile adhesive won't dry.
