Cold downstairs radiators, luke warm upstairs. Any ideas??

I did all that and it didn't work. In the end, I drained the whole system down to discover there was a blockage in the pipe from the header tank to the pump. The pipe was full of silt (probably from the header tank itself). Although all the radiators are now hot, the pump seems to be making...

Cold downstairs radiators, luke warm upstairs. Any ideas??

[ if you shut all the flow side down on the non working rads] Sorry? It is the downstairs rads that are not working but surely you want them open. Do you mean shut the flow side down on the working ones, which are upstairs?

So I need to shut all the radiators upstairs and make sure that all the radiators downstairs are open (which I'm sure they are already)? Is that right?

Cold downstairs radiators, luke warm upstairs. Any ideas??

How do I get rid of an airlock? Someone has suggested draining the whole system down and flushing all the radiators with a hosepipe. Is that right?

Cold downstairs radiators, luke warm upstairs. Any ideas??

Initially I thought it was the pump that was working. So I put in a new one, now it seems that the pump is trying to pump but can't. The pump is making a loud humming noise. The radiators upstairs are lukewarm (presumably by gravity-feed rather than by pump), hot water is fine but all the...

    Which Sentinel product to use?

I am replacing 5 out of the 8 radiators in my new house, due to excessive pinpointing, etc, which will involve a small bit of soldering of pipework. I also suspect that the central heating system has never been cleaned. Should I use X400 - sludge remover after installing the radiators...

    Removing Loft Insulation

In our loft we have some really old loft insulation made of what looks like shredded old newspaper and fibres(??) Does anyone know what this stuff is and whether it is safe to remove and whether it is a fire hazard? Anyway the long story is, is that we would like to remove it and replace it...

Any idea what sort of manhole it would be. The semi was built in the 1950s and I think the sewers run across the garden.

    Building close to manhole cover

I would like to build a single-storey kitchen extension. However, about 10ft from the outside wall is the manhole cover for the sewers. How close can I build to it? I don't want the cover to be inside the house. Can I move the manhole cover but still following the existing sewer pipes...

New RCD Consumer Unit keeps tripping

Have now spoken to the electrician. He says he did test the insulation and recorded all the columns as 1000mohms because all the readings were over 1000. We tested each circuit on its own, with the other MCBs switched off and the one MCB on still tripped the RCD.

New RCD Consumer Unit keeps tripping

We didn't have a RCD in the old consumer unit. I have switched everything off. Unplugged everything. So there should be absolutely no live current. Switch the consumer unit onto on. Then we plugged a table lamp with a 60W bulb and RCD trips. Then we try plugging a radio, drill. Trips...

New RCD Consumer Unit keeps tripping

On the insulation resistance column it says 1000 M ohms for all the circuit number. Does this mean anything? Obviously being a Sunday, I can't seem to get hold of him.

New RCD Consumer Unit keeps tripping

I just had a new consumer unit put it by a NICEIC approved electrician. However, just about everything is tripping it. for example, switching the central heating on, turning the shower or cooker on or even just plugging something into an electrical socket. Any idea what could be wrong with it...
