Isolate power to fit new CU

well guys it is indeed ampy automation, but no isolator! The incoming fuse is 60amp looking at the beige cover, could of been changed to 100amp i guess and not had cover updated but 60amp should be fine. Somebody mentioned something about 16mm? Could you enlighten me? The meter tails...

Isolate power to fit new CU

well they are VIR cables for sure but they look ok. Potentially the cables feeding the CU are just dirty by the looks of things. Would rather poke around and check their condition with power off though. Interesting comments about the meter releasing an interlock, would make sense. How would...

Isolate power to fit new CU

Yes. Will have to take a closer look. If they can't be changed then does the dno do that for free or do they require paying?

Ok i'll try that. What is the warranty for this boiler? It was installed by warmfront but thankfully the engineer was very good, so was lucky there.

Isolate power to fit new CU

That's really useful if that's the case. Would rather not break fuse tags, get dno in or have sparky work live so hopefully it will have some means of isolation. I will turn off the cu before doing it so load will be zero. Hopefully that resolves things. I take it the meter tails going to...

Isolate power to fit new CU

Ok cheers for the advice, he is probably willing to so i save money but 100 quid or so versus something going wrong is not worth the saving. Will have a look for the the isolator if there is one. Hopefully the dno (Western power distribution?) will fit an isolator or de-energise it for us...

Isolate power to fit new CU

So the dno would remove the fuse from the beige thing below the meter and not touch the meter at all? BTW i have no plans to do this or subject someone i care about to do it but i am interested. I did think there might be some kind of isolator on the meter so the dno wouldn't be involved.

Isolate power to fit new CU

We have a family electrican coming to change our CU for us. The set up is pictured below. With the meter pictured is there a way of taking the power off without having to get the DNO involved? Does anyone recognise this particular meter? Andy

No mate, it's ticking away like a ww2 bomb would. Deffo no sparking. Am i allowed to remove the front cover to locate the area more precisely. Is it easy to remove and put back?

It's not really loud but is annoying. My current worcester boiler is silent and so is the rest of my families when they're in stand by which includes other ideals. The pipes aren't producing noise when in stand by. I put my ear right next to the point arrowed and it's definitely coming from...

    TV socket

Well i just wondered if the cables are the same and sky uses a coax cable similiar to tv. And is it ok to wire the sky cable into a tv box. The socket range I have purchased doesn't include sky faceplates, only tv ones. The tv faceplates i have match the connector for the original sky...

I'm renovating my new house and although the boiler works fine there is an annoying noise eminating from it. It was installed a year ago for a family member who i'm buying the house from. The noise is coming from the area pictured and sounds like a hot metal cooling down which then...

    TV socket

Hi, I'm doing a house up and at present there are two coax type cables coming in to the house. One goes into a tv plate which is fine and will be reused. The other cable comes from a satelite dish and i wish to retain it in case i want satelite in future. It went into a small box on the...

    Wiring

Ok mate, think it would be best to re-wire then. I have no idea how any of it is wired and like the fact i understand my circuits here at home. So there goes, 2 ring mains, 2 light circuits, two radials (cooker and shower) and a boiler spurred fused at 3amp from a local socket. Doesn't sound...

Not sure of the cable size, will have to take a look tomorrow. Is the equation you refer to in lehmans terms the wires ability to hold on to it's heat and not give off too much heat for it to cause a fire hazard, something along the lines of thermodynamics? It's a good point about the cpc's...

    Wiring

I don't want to change all the wiring, it's a hellish job to be honest, i chased and run all the cables in my current house, i'm very proud of it but it is very hard work. If i don't need to i won't but if it all needs rewiring then fair enough, up come the floor boards and out comes the sds...

    Wiring

The 45amp mcb was added by an electrician, a good one who's worked with me before. The cable is correctly sized too and new colours so that's fine. The lights shouldn't be too bad to alter, agree on a rewire for those due to wanting metal sockets (missus wants em!). If the tinned copper...

This is my electric set up that i'll inherit when i move house. I recognise most the components but the brown box on the left flummoxes me, it has 5VA written on it. Any ideas chaps? The wiring in the house is the pvc type, not rubber thank god. but the lights will need earths (The light...
