    Tripping Circuit Breaker

I have just replaced a transformer for a flexi track light with 12V halogens. The old transformer was rated at 150W and I was using 5 x 20W lamps. I fried this by changing the lamps to 50W. I have got a replacement but this is a 200W transformer and I have it loaded with 2 x 50W and 3 x 20W...

    Fireplace Fitting

We are looking to replace our fire insert, surround, backboard and hearth. we had a quote from the shop where we will probably get the insert, backboard and heath from for £170 to fit it all. They said that the fitter may not mount the surround because he would not be insured if he damaged it...

    FibreGlass

What make is it? Try searching the net. The more hardener you use the quicker it will set, but will also increase the heat content. Has been a long time since I used resin for fibreglass Meblin

    Porch Building

We are about to replace our porch also. We have had several people round to give quotes and none seem to think that we will need planning permission because we are only replacing what is there and not increasing the useable space. I think I might contact our local planning office just to be...

    kitchen ceramic tiles

If you tile before then you will use more tiles that will not be seen. It is easier to tile an empty room as you will not have to cut any strange notches etc... If you tile after fitting the kitchen, you need to make sure that the units legs are extended to allow for the thickness of the...

    Router or Switch or Hub?

One down side of a hub is that it sends information to all links (you will see all connection lights flash at the same time). A Switch will only communicate to the links talking to one another. Most routers have 4 ports so you could use some of the routers ports, for the machines that have the...

Have a look at this post. I have created a small picture of tiling around a socket. Meblin

    terracotta floor tiles

I think it depends on the surface that you are tiling onto (but I could be wrong :)) I would definitely get a flexible adhesive as this will allow a small amount of movement during day to day usage. Meblin

    Tiling over a fire place

Have a look here. They are very helpful via email and the tiles are designed for the purpose. We too are looking to update our change our fire and surround. We have an Art Dec surround but need to replace the hearth and tiles. I asked my uncle (architect builder) what the best way to do it...

Hairline cracks in grout (newly installed kitchen tile)

Sounds like the adhesive and grout used were not flexible. What is hardibacker? The norm is to use 18mm ply and tile on top, but it does depend on what your base floor is mad of. I would think the heat is making everything expand and the grout/adhesive cannot take it so is cracking. Meblin

    Underfloor Heating

Mine is connected to it's own supply. I got it from Topps Tiles but can be bought from many Tile shops. Here is a link to the electrical installation. Meblin

    Underfloor Heating

I used the wire to just over it's suggested area (so the runns are further appart). If I wanted it to be warmer I should have used a longer wire and mad the runs narrower. (The shop assitant said that the tile can heat up to 55) Meblin

    Underfloor Heating

Do you want to use it to heat the room or just take the bite of cold tiles? I used a Warmup system and it was very easy to lay the wire and connect up (my electrician had already connected a wire to the fuse box). B&Q do a mat but this resticts the layout. The wire I have used can heat my...

    Ceramic Floor Tile Trouble

The mix wants to stick to your trowel similar to soft peaks when beating egg whites but wet enough to spread. Are your tiles uniformly thick? Are you using a flexible adhesive? Topps Tiles do a free DVD/Video to show you how to tile and the adhesive is mixed in one of the shots. Meblin

Ask for references of work they have done and ask if they left the keys and are they reliable, etc.. Meblin

    Tiling/sockets

Totally agree with the electric cutters. I think you can pick them up for about £30 in B&Q or Topps Tiles Meblin

Ooops didn't realise it was a closed system :D

    Tiling/sockets

If none of the tiles are cut how will you access the wires? You should cut the tiles so that when mounted the earthed metal box can just be seen all the way round (ie have 4 L shaped tiles making the hole) and then when you fite the face plate it will sit on top of the tiles. Meblin PS...

    Kettling?

I would say it's the build up of lime scale and possibly air in the system. Our boiler was making similar noises and there was a large air lock on the return pipe. This, coupled with the boiler being about 10 years old and having lots of lime scale, was causing our system to make lots of...
