nanny state - don't play with electrickery

Well - they've already brought in laws to prevent us doing gas fitting work, or fitting a replacement window (unless we pay the local planning department £100), or putting in an extra 3pin socket, so it's maybe only a matter of time before we can't (legally) do any plumbing work or do any work...

    Chipped brick repair

I knocked the corner off one of the uprights on my sectional concrete garage. I refixed it using Unibond. That was fifteen years ago!

    Chipped brick repair

You could try PVA Unibond - as long as you keep the weather off it until its dried.

    Extension Foundations

I wouldn't have thought so. Was it built with building control approval? I built a 10'x10' kitchen extension on my house in 1978, and even as long ago as that, the trenches had to go way below the house footing. In fact, just over a metre deep.

    House Overhaul

You're right! it would be likely to be expensive. In my opinion, MFI kitchens are better than B&Q. Probably B&Q get fewer complaints than MFI, but purely from a fitting point of view. Over the years, I've fitted several MFI kits for myself and daughters. I would suggest you draw up your...

Service valves that don't service ...

I agree, red top gate valves don't seem to work for long. Just as drain cocks seem to be useless after a few years.

    Mira Excel Shower Control Stiff

My Wickes power shower, which I think is also made by Mira gets like yours after around two years of use. To free up the control knob spindle, the control valve needs to be detached from the motor, stripped down and all the moving parts and 'O' rings smeared with silicone grease. Make a...

    Soffets and Facias Replacement

You're right - the first line of tiles are resting on the board. Also all the guttering needs to come off. Due to the length of the materials, it's a two man job, preferably working on a platform.

    Loft

You need at least four inches. Look in any DIY store at their rolls fibre matting.

    tiling edging

No! it isn't necessary to use plastic corners. In fact, I hate them.

    Tribute to Fred

Just watched it on the video this morning. A lovely programme about a very likeable bloke.

    garage door openers

I fitted an opener to my daughters garage door. It's an up and over with canopy. I used the kit from Wickes and it was quite straight forward to fit after a bit of fine tuning to get it right. It works fine - trouble is she's too lazy to put the car in the garage.
