So you are implying you are a snob because you have a HD television and access to HD broadcasts? You've said yourself you can see the difference it makes so whats the argument? If you are aware of and have interest in 'tech no stuff' it does not make you a snob just because others are...

    HDMI

I don't think it matters the fact that it is 1080p and 24" - you're just saying a 24" tv is a waste of time (I agree to a certain extent - eg. if you put it in a large room). Would you have made that comment if it were a 720p 24"? They are after all the same sort of price as 1080p ones. All...

Fair enough. TBH by the time HD becomes 'mainstream' it will cost a lot less that it does now. You can already pick up 1080p tellys (only 24") for £250 and blu-ray players for under £100 so give it another 6-12 months and we'll all be on the HD bandwagon.

Which way round does a louvre vent go?

The correct way is so the openings are facing down so it doesn't get full up of crap and block the air flow. As said cold air falls so it matter a toss which way round it goes in that respect.

I've got the 42LG6100 LCD and the 'Trumotion' is pretty poor for regular viewing eg. Eastenders  With Winbledon etc. though it comes into its own with blur free viewing. On the other note - I don't think (correct me if I'm wrong) any broadcasts are in 1080p yet? BUT that doesn't mean...

But you will between your 720p telly and a 1080p telly showing a blu-ray disc. 100Hz is sh*t for anything other than sport anyway; it makes ordinary broadcast look 'fake'.

    Fireplace inset reduction advice needed

Just use an aircrete block (Celcon / Thermalite), these can be cut with a saw to any dimension and laid with sand and cement, will not need tieing in to sides and minimal linel across top; a piece of galvanised steel should be sufficient. Cutting paving slabs and using engineering bricks seems...

Fireproof box for aerial amplifier in the loft

I think you're being a bit paranoid. Put a piece of paper on the hot spots for a day or two, if it goes brown then you have a problem with your hardware overheating and if it doesn't you fine. If you have no paper to hand you could try bacon or even an egg...... Your kettle gets hot but it...

    Double concrete block skin?

As long as there are two skins there should be no problem with damp from outside. Also with a cavity you can obviously insulate it. Can you not get limestone faced blocks to use for the outer skin? I would have thought a purely limestone outer wall would be expensive? Also the porosity will vary...

    Double concrete block skin?

Probably not two skins of block then cavity then limestone but two skins of block work with an insulated cavity faced with limestone. Fastneattrowel has tried to read the question twice but his finger obviously got tired from touching the words on the screen so he still hasn't got the gist of it.
