    Real Download Problem

Not really, although I get problems with my modem too. I think they can't all be equal.

Just a couple of things I'm curious about

Thanks both. Have to say that in a small bathroom, one can accidently get uncomfortably near a hot radiator on occassion :) But that's cleared both points. And well worth emphasising checking the pressure should there ever be a need to bleed.

Just a couple of things I'm curious about

No great need to know, but have been wondering about them both for a while. I've been informed that one should not bleed radiators that are supplied by a combi. I can not claim that the guy who installed the system in my place mentioned it, so I wondered a) if it were true, and b) if so, why...

    blown bulbs tripping out electrics

Thanks. I seem to be learning a lot recently :-)

    Plasterboarding over old ceiling

You can buy detectors from the DIY store. I've found they can spot joists if you sweep enough times, but seem to be rough guides to me. I've always tended to end up going into the loft and drilling small guide holes either side, in various places along the joist, just to be sure. But maybe...

    blown bulbs tripping out electrics

Fair enough Qedelec, but one could get 'slow blow' fuses, but it seems not RCDs ? Unsure if it's a safety issue they're not available, or a problem packing the necessary control in.

    blown bulbs tripping out electrics

Of course, what we need is the technical answer as to how to prevent it when our incandescent bulb does finally blow ;) Seems odd, in this millennium, that the system can't distinguish between situations and prevent it. There's something about 'nuisance tripping' here.

Moved to Electrics UK Fitting a Fluorescent Strip light

For something supposedly "Moved to Electrics UK" it still seems to be in the "outside" forum. very old wiring In which case maybe the first priority would be to replace the house wiring for safety's sake ? The wire colours you mention for the light fitting are not one's I usually see...

    Damp Extension Base

Thanks both. I'll assume it's ok to leave it then. It was a kitchen before I ripped all the units out and started refurbishing it. Will be again hopefully before too long. But this is definitely weather related. Comes and goes with the rain.

    Damp Extension Base

Thanks for the reply. Neither outside nor inside on the extension base does it get bad enough to pool. The concern is more to do with the fact that a clear damp patch occurs inside. I wasn't expecting that, but have no building experience so don't know if it's normal and should be ignored...

Ring circuit with only spurs in a kitchen

It just hit the floor mate. ;) Another FSU eh ? Hmmm.... now that's a thought.

    Damp Extension Base

Seriously, no one knows ? I thought those with building experience would know instantly, or is everyone thinking it's too obvious ?

    cooker cable

Depends on whether you have a cable conforming to the new scheme or the old scheme. Are you aware what L, N, and E stand for ?

Ring circuit with only spurs in a kitchen

Ah their eyes may glaze over, but your back is covered :) Hmmm...now to avoid too much additional work I just need to find a 2 gang georgian round pin socket... fat chance. Ah well.... maybe it doesn't need to 'match' behind the freezer anyway. Sorry Scooby!, best pull this thread back...

Ring circuit with only spurs in a kitchen

Interested in that. Is it normal/common to have a designated freezer socket in the kitchen that isn't on the (RCD protected) ring, but a separate radial ? I ask as I've not come across it and I'm in a position to put that in my place at the moment if I decide it's worth it. (Might be a pain...

    Motion Sensor.

I wanted mine to modify the outside front door area, I see the area you wish to light is inside. Uh... yes, I've not really thought about that option before, but I can't think of any reason why you couldn't plug it into an existing socket, if you wished. Just the appearance of having the lead...

    cats blooming cats

I found a combination of pepperdust and a battery driven device that detected motion and claimed to play some some noise that only cats can hear, worked well. No crap on the lawn for over a year now. I hear citrus peel puts them off too. Not that I tried it.

:D :D :D Cheers again. Got all that. Not tonight methinks. Need to wait for a time when the pipes in front of the wiring centre ain't so hot ;)

    Boiler Cabling

Yes, it seems to be regular 3 core flex. My desire to change it wasn't due to not believing it was up to the task, it was a general distaste for flex in the wall, a belief it shouldn't be done. (Plus the route it was taking, and the choc block, etc..) Yes, the control unit is on an adjacent...
