    Cant read my floppy

Floppys do age. Always best to have the data on them backed up elsewhere. You can get apps on the net to help you recover data, but the level of success isn't guarantied. One gets better success with text files as one can often correct the corrupted bits by eye/hand, which you can't really...

[b]Single 2 Double Socket, then adding an another double Soc

Swop them. If the fault follows the socket, as expected, then there's a new connection problem it's just developed. Replace and sling the old.

    ebay

Sure are frauds there. Got stung trying to purchase a mobile phone from someone with a 100% record on ebay. Still awaiting the police to tell me they've hauled his rear end into gaol. Lost confidence that they will :( (probably too busy with their revenue cameras). But also bought from...

    earth wire cut

Wish I'd know crimping was ok about a year ago. Had a similar problem with the new house I'd just moved into. Only that was mains socket rather than a light switch. Had to move the box down. It's fine now, although would be a pain if I wanted to replace to skirting with something a little...

    boot prob

In which case it might pay you to purchase a virus protection system and have it running permanently. Or you could go for a free version, such as AVG.

    Lighting Circuit

Oh wow. Think you might do well to call in the professionals. Other than that, it's getting rather difficult to picture. I think you need to check each and make a drawing. I'm sure multi switch circuits must be in the sticky thread somewhere. You can compare with that. The basic 5...

    Bathroom Light Problem

:) Yeah all the above 3 posts are correct. Confess I don't turn my whole house off to remove the fuse to where I'm working, naughty me. But I do only use the one hand, so if I get bit, only the neighbours will hear me yell.

email hijack can make your life a mess

Not an expert, and not wanting to state the obvious, but you are sure your PC hasn't been infected by a bot that is sending out these things from your PC ? I guess it need not do to spoof an address, but it was just a thought. May be worthwhile scanning for virii and adware etc.. Best of...

Firewall/virus software conflicting with internet!!!! help

Thanks for the suggestions. Not heard of bit tornado, is it anything like bit torrent ? Not that I've had that either. Have played with p2p s/w on occasion, but like any new toy, I got fairly bored with it after a while. But the Net loss problem still occurs even when not running p2p...

Hager 6+6 OK for domestic CU?

A quick search on Google shows he is asking less than you'd normally expect to pay. Seems a reasonable deal if above board, but I let others buy from those with an ebay score of only 1. At that stage I'd have thought he'd have been prepared to drop the asking price more, to help build up his...

    Overload

I'd have thought it unlikely (recall you can plug a 3kW electric fire in there) but you need to check the labels and see what the total load is, to know for sure. But woudn't you be much better of using a fused trailing socket ? The fuse would ensure you didn't overload the socket.

Is this a DIY site anymore

Maybe a sticky thread detailing the part p in plain English would serve to avoid so much reference to it in individual threads ?

    MS WORD oddity

Why should it bother you ? Lacking disk space ? In your shoes I'd try unticking one at a time and see which the .tmp file is, just out of interest.

Firewall/virus software conflicting with internet!!!! help

Interesting. My BT broadband keeps dropping out and yet claims to still be connected too. Sometimes it'll stay up for days, other times I need to reboot every 10 minutes. Tried the same connection on 2 different PCs and both seem affected. Given the fault 'moved' with the connection, I...

    plug in light with switch

Maybe I missed something from the opening post, but isn't that a description of a normal switched mains socket, that you just happen to want to use to plug a light into ? If you have one nearby, use that. Or you can put a new one in as a spur, from an existing, or break into the ring and...
