Help needed to interpret a restrictive covenant

If the covenant was written when the house and land had separate owners, whose house was the land given permission to become the garden to? You are the only neighbour?

    Light switches in a bathroom

You could have an outdoor waterproof switch. As presumably they are safe to use in pouring rain you could mount it inside the shower if you really wanted.

    Heating Regs

Surely this is a classic case of the need for separate room radiator thermostats? The boiler has the capacity, but too much heat is going into the main room and not enough to the bedroom?

    Smart meter confusion

Some quotes hide in the small print the fact that it includes agreement to have a Smart meter. You need to read all the T&C very carefully to spot tricks like this.

    Are wooden lintels still allowed?

There are plenty of houses with wooden outside wooden lintels too. Oak lasts for hundreds of years.

    Moving the main supply cable

Our incoming electricity supply goes to three big insulators on a bracket on one corner of the house, and then the three cables run along the front wall underneath the eaves, down the wall, through the porch and the front door lintel to the meter in a box high up inside the hallway. When we had...

    Loft beam removal

But in my example of the two sticks tied together with a piece of string, it can't be in compression. If the ends of the sticks splay out, then they will move apart throughout their length - mostly at the bottom, a bit at the top, but the string will still be in tension. You can't push with a...

    Loft beam removal

I don't see that. If you prop two bits of wood against each other on a slippery surface they will try to splay out. You can stop them doing that by tieing a cord between them at any point along their length, even near the apex.

Moving electric car chargepoint to new house

What is the purpose of the grant - to encourage uptake of EVs, or to discourage the use of EVs by multi-car households, or to make it more difficult to move house if you own an EV? PS. Don't forget to remove all the lightbulbs.

    CDM & Asbestos

You could leave a pressure hose lying around and perhaps the fairy might spray the board with water first.

Someone has made a planning enquiry about our land

The council reply to my enquiry: "I refer to your e-mail below, unfortunately pre application advice forms received by the Local Planning Authority are not viewable by members of the public therefore we are unable to respond to your e-mail." So unless the council email is incorrect it is a...

Someone has made a planning enquiry about our land

Then the council person I spoke to was lying. She said they had had a Pre-planning enguiry. She said the same thing to the estate agent, and I saw the email from the council to the agent asking for a location map in connection with a planning enquiry. It was the agent who suggested contacting...

Someone has made a planning enquiry about our land

The dilema has resolved itself - the potential buyer has withdrawn. So presumably some kind of fast-track reply from the council has said No. It's curious that the entire process - bid to estate agent, Pre-planning application to council, council request to estate agent for details, council...

Someone has made a planning enquiry about our land

Thanks It8480. That sums it up in a nutshell - nothing venture nothing gain. :)

Someone has made a planning enquiry about our land

That was my question - how do I find out what can be done with it? To make a pre-planning enquiry I have to complete a form stating my proposal - how many houses for example, what size, etc. There doesn't seem to be a facility for asking simply "What can I do?"

Someone has made a planning enquiry about our land

We have five acres of grazing land advertised for sale with a local agent. We have had several satisfactory offers, but now one of these has revealed to the agent that she has made enquiries about possible planning permission. The local council has asked the agent for a map showing the field's...

Too many wires in ceiling rose for my new fitting

Absolutely incomprehensible to me until I looked it up. It seems an entirely pointless affectation.

    Shaver socket for toothbrushes

Bathroom electrics really haven't kept pace with the increased use of bathroom-type accessories. Shaver, toothbrush, water-flosser charger, hair dryer - all things you'd naturally want to use in the bathroom, and preferably not all on dangling wires over the sink. Sockets in the rest of the...

Can you run a socket for a low power device from lighting?

Why not change the plug on the appliance to a small 3-pin round one and mount an appropriate socket? I've seen these used specifically for low-power applications - extension lighting, etc. https://www.amazon.co.uk/ROUND-WALL-SOCKET-OUTLET-LG9092/dp/B008644ZEO
