insulation on front and party walls

Thanks for your replies so far neo and mountainwalker, much appreciated :) Right, I think I'll go back to the original plan of 25mm celotex on the front wall then. Mountainwalker, this is a very good point. Both houses either side of mine are occupied and I get a fair amount of warmth...

crack in my lower front purlin

Hi guys, Another question but this time it's about a crack that I have spotted in one of my purlins. The property is an 1880s mid-terrace house. The roof is a slate roof. The rafters are 3" x 2" and meet a ridge at the top (not sure of the dimensions of this unfortunately). On each side of...

insulation on front and party walls

Hi guys, I'm wondering what everyone's opinion is for insulation behind drylining a room. First of all, it's an 1880s mid-terraced house with cavity walls front and rear of the house and the room I will be gutting soon is the upstairs main bedroom at the front of the house. I am not...

IR cameras indoors but pointing outdoor

Ah, Thanks guys for your replies. I'm glad I asked now. Will have to go back to the drawing board I think though now. Jay

IR cameras indoors but pointing outdoor

Just to add insult to injury... The reason I'm asking this is because I'm wanting to fit a couple in my house and being able to see what's going on in the dark is important but I would rather just situate them in the corner of my window on the inside and point it outwards. I don't know why...

IR cameras indoors but pointing outdoor

Hi there, This maybe a daft question but I've got to ask. Will the infra-red on a CCTV camera be effective at night when situating the camera inside the house but pointing to my back yard for example? Thanks Jay

    quiet?

:D ... like it! I was going to add that with working with PCs at work in two separate jobs and from personal experience I find that Dell PCs are quieter. In fact, they design their PCs (I'm going off OptiPlex models) and servers with heat in mind and arrange components accordingly in the case...

    joist thickness for loft conversion

There is this document but... it doesn't mention bungalows unless they come under detached? Try this link it's got the information there; however I don't think it's up to date. If anyone else can find an up to date reliable table then please post. Again, I'm not sure if this is different for...

    matshita-dvd-ram drive,rw drive

Gregers, Can you tell us what software are you trying to use to write DVDs? Also, what operating system are you using? i.e. XP or Vista What would also be helpful is the make and model of the DVD+/-RW drive. In XP you can find this out by right clicking the DVD+/-RW drive in My Computer...

    joist thickness for loft conversion

Today, I asked the BCO at the council I work in and he says for the spans I have mentioned 8" x 2" joists at C16 grade minimum (which he says what are provided as standard by timber merchants) are needed as this would cover a span upto 4.39m. So thanks again guys; you guys were pretty spot on...

Rocky, You could try emptying out your Temporary Internet Files. I find your symptoms happen to me if I've been caning it on Youtube or other video streaming websites. If you need a hand on how to do this then shout back with which browser you use i.e. Firefox or Internet Explorer. Jay

    joist thickness for loft conversion

I've recently been in touch with a BCO at the council that I work in and he said to me that you can get away with not having a fire door if you have hard wired smoke detectors in place as this would give you your early warning. I'm not sure if he said that they have to be in every room though...

    joist thickness for loft conversion

Cheers Chukka and Freddy for your replies. I've got a few more questions. Well, when I've been lifting the floorboards up on the upstairs floor to make improvements to electrics, alarm and central heating I've seen that the 7" x 3"s are going into this wall from the front wall and the back...

    freeware floor plan software

Ah, cheers Freddy. May give that a go as I'm not liking Envisioneer due to having to get a line drawn exactly to length first time. i.e. you can't seem to go to Properties of a line and amend its length without it affecting the other lines it's linked to. Pain in the bum! Thanks again :)

    joist thickness for loft conversion

Hi there, I have a mid-terrace house that was built in 1880s. I've pottering about in it doing work here and there. I've left the worst thing til last now come to sort out the main bedroom. The plaster isn't looking too clever on the walls and ceiling is sagging badly. The ceiling is a...

    freeware floor plan software

Cheers Tipper, I tried that but it's more 3D and all I'm after doing is a 2D floor layout of the upstairs floor in my house. Last night I tried Envisioneer Express if this is any use to anyone. It's free to download but it's a bit of a big download and a big install. You can also switch...
