    Worcester-Bosch or Glowworm?

out of the choice of glowworm or worcester for a combi i'd go worcester, but if i had a choice of any boiler i'd go for a vaillant, they're very quiet, very reliable and so easy to work on. my views on worcesters boilers are still tainted by the rubbish highflows, cbi's and the poorly...

terrier circulating pump good as grundfos ?

15-60 has a 6 metre head, the 15-50 has a 5 metre head. basically the 15-60 is a more powerful pump. i'd either insist on getting it changed for the grundfos or refunded the difference as the terrier is a cheaper pump. personally i only fit grundfos as they are the quietest and most...

to push fit or not to pushfit

loads of new houses use plastic pipe, but if you see the installations that's because the installers haven't got a clue what they're doing and take absolutely no pride in their work, i think central heating installers only do the boiler now and the builders bodge all the main pipework in...

    Should return strainer be cleaned?

i had to clean one out that was 2 years old as it wouldn't circulate. you can just leave it out if you wish, it's only a tiny bit of cheap mesh

    wilo gold pump

if they're stuck you might just be able to hacksaw the unions off and fit new ones (majority of valves have the same ones). there are other methods but i normally find that's quickest and involves the least amount of physical effort rather than straining to undo things. gate valves pretty...

    Drill/Driver Advice Needed

makita are a very good make - my works stuff is makita but the ryobi stuff is also well worth a look, i use that at home. for home use i've got the drill and impact driver set. the impact driver is bloody brilliant, it countersinks screws through sheer power, whereas with the drill driver you...

    banging boiler

you've probably got a blockage in the cold feed, therefore the tank is full and the pump is running but there's not enough water for it to push around. try bleeding the upstairs radiators, if they don't bleed the cold feed is blocked.

    Plastic piping

bit late but thought i'd add my view on plastic pipe and fittings i don't think anything can ever be worse than seeing loads of pushfits they are a nasty cheap looking bodge no matter what pipe they're used on. if you have no idea what you're doing, no skills or simply don't care about doing...

Powermax 155 - No Heating Water Only

a powermax trouble free for 6 years - you must be a very very lucky person! once the thermal store gets up to temp it'll start the c/h pump, therefore if the pump won't run the boiler will cycle on/off. blank clock could well be another problem, happens to me sometimes at work, turn the...

No Hot Water in Kitchen Tap

diaphragm is a 15 minute job, just turn off the cold water to the boiler and run the lowest hot tap. it's the big flat circular valve on the left, take the microswitch off then undo the screws and tube, let the water drain from the taps, then remove the top, replace diaphragm, put back...

    Ideal Icos M3080 Fault

the fan's have been known to blow pcbs. can still get all the stuff for the older versions that aren't the HE ones.

    Ideal on the way out????

maybe they should have replaced the icos/isar/istor with a good boiler and they wouldn't be in trouble. it's all the warranty stuff that must be killing them. pretty much every single icos/isar/istor i see has had or needs a new pcb, almost every single one under warranty. heat engines...

    potterton neataheat 10/16 fault

a common problem on these is the spark earthing bracket wears away. it's inside the boiler and the electrode sparks against it to light. just because it's making the sparking noise doesn't mean it's actually sparking in the right place. if the bracket is worn it can replaced or just bent...
