the connections that the user control panel plugs on to are thin strips of copper and easily wear away, the user control panel might be perfectly fine but a condensate leak in the combustion case can run down and corrode away the connections on the plastic case it fits on to.

there is a great deal of pressure exerted on to engineers to force them to sell but you normally find the lowest sellers with bg tend to be the best engineers as they fix rather than sell. high sellers tend to be either too lazy to fix or simply not very good engineers.

a few newish estates near me are full of them, 1000s of houses. the developers hated the people that bought the houses so they're full of kestons, powermax's and icos, isar and istor!!

i think ideal will find it hard to recover their reputation with engineers but many are still fitted as they're cheap so people who don't care about longevity fit them for maximum profit. i've never known a make of boiler to be so badly designed and so unreliable as the ideal icos/isar...

why would you want a combi boiler? is the system running dry? i.e empty header tank or a blocked cold feed. if you can't bleed the rads then i'd check that first.

skim read, did you say new stat but same old receiver?

when i've had kits for ideal isars they've come with the spanner, so find someone that works for ideal ;)

the receivers are unchanged so they work with the new stats, but the new stats are bigger than the old ones with more on them to confuse people - progress ;)

are the o rings not in the hydroblock o ring kit? about £10-15 depending on boiler

these boilers have a built in bypass which can get muck in them or become weak so the water will go round the boiler rather than the system
