    Using FootPump To Clear Blockages

i use a footpump, all you need is a valve from a bike tyre to attach it to with a 15mm union over it, fits on to the new rad valves. for older ones you need an old rad tail to adapt it. can make it fit pipe from 8mm to 28mm no problem with an adaptor or 2, just that tyre valve is the...

Water blowing out of my pressurised system

have you never seen a sealed system with an unvented cylinder that has an expansion vessel rather than an air bubble? blue or white expansion vessels are generally used on unvented cylinders (potable water), red or silver vessels on sealed heating systems.

    Glow-worm bolier

it's a combustion seal, originally it was rubber up until april 2006 when it became graphite. on vaillant boilers they had a program to replace all the seals but glowworm said they only need doing if disturbed (from memory that is - it has been a couple of years now) when the seal...

    Which Cordless Screwdriver?

it all depends on what you're after but for small jobs i've got the bosch psr 200 Li, which is a 7.2v lithium ion screwdriver, costs about £45. cracking screwdriver and can do 12nm which is not bad. it's small and fits nicely in the pocket. if you're after something with more clout then...

the instructions normally say they should be fitted on the return

    External expansion vessels.

you can get some water squirt out even if the diaphragm/membrane is ok - the old chap was spot on - to make sure you have to see how much water comes out, anymore than a cup and the diaphragm will be shot. i've seen people fit external expansion vessels even though the original one is fine...

Saunier Duval daily pressure loss and British Gas ineptitude

it can lose its pressure even though you may have no water missing from any radiators, it's just there's less water crammed in to the system as a whole i've known systems to lose pressure within minutes and there still be no sign of a leak, that's the trouble when pipes are buried under...

    air getting into heating system?

when you bleed the radiator try lighting it with a match, if it lights it's hydrogen and that shows there is a reaction in your system causing it. to solve you the problem it will need cleansing and inhibiting, either that or you have a radiator that insists on having a reaction and it needs...

    Current scrap prices

is an incredibly vague description, it can be interpreted in so many different ways it means virtually sod all. for example if i have more pipe than i required it's unwanted but i'll keep it on the van, same with boiler o rings or screws, i don't want them as they clutter the van but keep them...

Fan Vibation on Worcester Bosch Greenstar 18Ri?

after adjusting it he may have left the pcb set on the wrong setting. when setting the combustion you set the boiler to run at maximum, set the combustion, then set it to minimum and set the combustion, then go back to max and so on until both are within range. the engineer probably left it...

Anyone able to recommend Erbauer power tools?...

as far as i'm aware warranties don't work that way, for example you buy a drill with a 3 year warranty and it fails after 2 years 9 months and you get a new one the new drill is only under warranty for the remainder of the initial warranty period, i.e 3 months. but then that might only apply...

    Jeremy Clarkson Comment

are you saying being scottish is a disability? it's a bit different saying someones got one eye, is scottish and an idiot as opposed to calling someone a deaf spastic, especially as you're only hard of hearing and don't have that 'slight spasticity' at the moment. everything's...

Snow - excuses to take the day off?

made it to work late on weds, had to wait for the snow to partially melt as the cul de sac where i live is too steep so no one could make it out, especially as there is no run up at all, it's all steep slope. i tried a few times but when rolling back down the slope with wheels spinning i...

    speed fit?

the biggest problem with plastic pipe and push fit, which is why i personally am not keen on them, is they're more often than not installed wrong. for example most of the time plastic pipe doesn't have inserts fitted, the ends aren't cut very well, the collet clips are missing, pipework is bent...

    2 new radiators are cold

the pipework run was designed for just one radiator, adding 2 more on to it won't work, you need to trace the pipes further back. although i can't understand the logic of running 2 extra rads off of pipework that wouldn't even heat one?!?!?
