Replacing a CH Pump , Advice needed.

old systems had the pump on the return, just before the boiler, pumping towards the boiler. as said, fit the new one the same as the old one.

The " Finger Test " for circulating pumps

now this test can be useful for some people but i can think of a few problems pump valves - ball type valves are useless and the manufacturers guarantee probably states that if they are used to isolate the pump they will then leak 95% of the time and will require new valves. gate valves may...

just wondering what was happening on this now? it's like a soap opera this forum sometimes waiting for the next instalment

Central heating power flush, boiler now cutting out

x400 is pretty much useless in a powerflush as it's too weak, the instructions say can be in the system for up to approx 28 days (as far as i can remember), that shows just how weak it is. best results when powerflushing you need x800 (or fernox ds40) as said by the 2 previous chaps

Expansion vessel stuffed, can I fit an 'external'(?) one?

even if you were to replace the standard vessel i'd add an external one as well because the expansion vessel, due to the hot water store, is ridiculously small and if you have an average house with 8 rads (i know you have 7) you need an additional one, if you have less rads but they're big then...

ideal icos m3080 boiler showing fault coe L8

i remember a couple of years back ringing ideal (after replacing a pcb on one of these and it still didn't work) only to get told by them that if i ever have to replace the pcb i should also replace the fan as it's probably what blew the pcb, so it took a new fan and another pcb to fix what...

    Copper vs Plastic

so far this year i've seen 2 ceilings down, last year probably about between 15-20, i don't count exactly john guest. although i have seen a copper push fit come off a pipe but that was because the pipe had frozen so it was a case of the pipe burst or the push fit give way john guest...

New piping required if new boiler installed?

17mm or 15mm gas pipe? i don't understand how a wider gas pipe would improve water pressure?!?! are you on about the cold mains to the boiler or pipes to your taps? puma's are pretty noisy as a general rule, the case rattles and they scale up or sludge up, i've had to do quite a few heat...

    Copper vs Plastic

i've seen quite a few ceilings brought down by leaking o rings on push fits and numerous other leaks and that includes ones where the pipe ends were neatly cut and the fittings where perfectly fitted with inserts and collet clips. i've seen them fail within a year or two, it's not that common...

    Copper vs Plastic

i'm saying the seals aren't as reliable as a proper soldered joint. joints that can move about have a tendency to leak over time. for example if you fit a part in a boiler and both ends have a rubber o ring you'll be pretty much guaranteed to have to replace the o ring the other end, you don't...

    Copper vs Plastic

the trouble with push fit fittings is they look rubbish, like they are a complete bodge and the seals are rubber o rings, anyone that works on boilers knows that rubber o rings aren't the most long lived form of seal.

the missus has that quorn stuff, i've tried the burgers, mince and veggie sausages, some of the worst food i've eaten for years, absolutely disgusting rubbish. from the taste of the burgers i assume they are made of cardboard that has been rubbed on a factory floor, put in a big full of week...

    Annual Service

a reliability factor of 97% for ideal icos/isar/istor - i guess they wait and break down just over a year after installation when out of warranty and the pcb has packed up! customers i visit with them boilers normally have a list of previous call outs as long as your arm, 1 or 2 new pcbs, heat...

Water through hot taps not getting hot.

the gas valve might not be modulating/sticking on low gas. could be a faulty gas valve, pcb or thermistor causing it.

    LEAKING IDEAL ICOS HE24 BOILER

i've found holes in the bottoms of sumps a few times and the combustion chamber burnt through when the insulation fell due to the lack of the 'coat hanger' ionisation probes. an aav leak is obvious and should never be mistaken for a heat exchanger leaking

    LEAKING IDEAL ICOS HE24 BOILER

the heat exchanger and sump come as one unit, you can't get them separately so i'm afraid a new heat exchanger is the order of the day
