How old would you estimate my CU is?

It's not as if it's a major hazard, is it? It's all a matter of risk compensation. In some parts of the world they'd be happy to have the CU you have there...

Can I improve this socket near a sink? (pic)

Just reading through some other threads has made me consider the socket in a flat I rent out. One of the sockets is very close to the kitchen sink (see pic). It has a microwave plugged into it (no kettle). Sorry best pic I have at the moment as wasn't taken specifically for this discussion...

    Power Switch Above Hob

seems sensible to move it to me - off to the right like the one in this picture. Or ask the chap if it could simply be moved straight up? (ie towards the top of the wall out of the way of the heat? Or do you have cupboards there?)

    New sockets for TV etc

OK we're currently redecorating the front room. While we do it, should we fit another double socket rather than use the extension lead we use currently for the av equipment? I'm thinking it would be better at supplying stable power to my various electronic gadgets I've got plugged in. I have...

Recommend me a house alarm please?

Yeah the decking isn't actually finished in that photo - there is some blocks to be built in that space to make a planter. The alarm will be fitted DIy by me, no monthly contract or anything. The one I'm considering (visonic) has anti-jamming tech so the code can't be read and copied, which I...

Recommend me a house alarm please?

ok will check out Visonic Powermax or Visonic Powermax plus thanks. Kitchen not that big too be honest! You can kind of see it here: (it's the full width extension). I did the decking myself ;) I've recently found out that these UPVC doors are not very burglar-safe (even though they...

Recommend me a house alarm please?

I'm thinking of getting the Secware Texecom 6 PIR Complete Kit from here securitywarehouse.co.uk for £140. I have a two-bed semi-detached house, with large garden workshop. Questions: The kitchen is very large could I use two PIRs in the kitchen or do they interfere with each other? Could...

    Chocbox or junction box?

oh ok. So if a connection were to be made that was to be left under a floor, should a crimp of some kind be used, or should it be soldered? Or something else? (again this is just for interest / general knowledge).

    Chocbox or junction box?

:D In the past I've sometimes struggled to get three or four sets of wires into a standard junction box (eg like this junction box ) but these chocbox look like they'd be easier to use? So if the junction was to remain under floorboards (say), would chocbox (eg like this chocbox ) be...
