Does a 70 year old property need air vents in the roof?

Thankyou all. Have decided not to proceed. Anxiety has made me look for problems and try to solve them before they occur.

Does a 70 year old property need air vents in the roof?

Thankyou all, i did wonder! My own fault for asking an architect what would be required if we were to sell to make it really good. Then afterwards it occured to me that we have been okay so far. Incidentally , are air vents meant to be so huge? They are about 4 x the size of our normal rood tile?

Does a 70 year old property need air vents in the roof?

Hi . We have had the property for 30 odd years now with no issues…..touch wood. someone has said that we should really have air vent tiles fitted in the tiles on the roof, especially if we are to sell. Are these necessary as everything is fine so far? I ordered one from screwfix just to see and...

Should you use weak sand and cement mix when pointing so it is sacrificed?

Omg! Ok , for final final clarity 4 to 1 is 4 parts builders sand 1 part cement or if you wish to use lime (not sure why you would use lime?), 3 sand 1 cement and 1 lime is that correct? thankyou, its done my head in and made me laugh in equal measure (1 part laugh, 1 part done my head in!)

Should you use weak sand and cement mix when pointing so it is sacrificed?

Good Morning I want to get my building in tip top condition , especially as I may put it on the market in a few years. it is a 1947 brick built house. It needs a bit of pointing hither and thither and a surveyor friend mentioned that its best NOT to use a 3in 1 mix, but instead, a weak mix of...

Horrible gas fire…can i tart it up or should i replace

I shall indeed follow the advice. especially as you now inform me he is a queen of tarts. Do you think its odd though, going outside to turn a tap on, then pulling the grate bit off turn it on, light a match. Then when you want it to off again you have to go outside and turn the tap off as the...

Horrible gas fire…can i tart it up or should i replace

You make an excellent point there. the thing that puts me off is there’s quite a bit of jiggery pokery to turn it on…theres a valve thing outside the house would you believe, and you turn that on first. Also all this sandy stuff seems to be coming out of the chimney. I’ve never had gas before...

Ooh, thanks. I hadnt heard of coal paint. Just another cheeky question here….should the back be painted black, or keep it stone coloured. Sorry I am useless with these things!

Horrible gas fire…can i tart it up or should i replace

Hi , I have a really old ugly gas fir in the dining room. I enclosed a pic (ignore the plastic bag over the coals) The back is all discoloured. Is there anyway or tarting it up, or would it be easier to replace with electric? The only prob I can see with elec is that the hole (?) is tapered and...
