Who knows about Audi`s :) A mate of mine has an Audi A4 B6 2001 - 2004, with the ignition off the speedo & rev counter needles jitter/vibrate slightly, when the engine is on/car in motion the gauges do not work nor does most of the dash! Any ideas on this one? is it new or refurb...

The battery could simply be tired and require replacement. If you can borrow/buy an Amp Clamp you will be able to see the idle current draw, if its high you can then begin to trace whats causing it.

Often a new unit was necessary unfortunately as the shaft bush was worn which meant the arm rattled around causing sensor noise and non starting :cry:

Have you got the right brushes?

Have you tried attaching jump leads from the battery negative terminal to the engine block? This will test the earth/negative connection.

Battery under seat?? Check the batt earth main wire, it has a fuseable link! Also where it bolts to the body can go high resistance too!

IDE is Renaults attempt at a direct petrol injection engine :)

Lumpy idle on the Renault IDE engine usualy means the head is blocked with excess carbon/oil deposits! It will prob need a good de-coke!

I`m guessing 1.9TD? These keypads are notoriously unreliable! If I remember correctly the code is stored in the actual pump! Usualy if a code was forgotton back at Citroen we had to send the pump away to a specialist to be de-coded! Top tip - if you do get the right code and the light...

You do know if your car is stolen and you cannot provide all the keys your insurance arnt likely to pay out? Are you in the AA/RAC? They will gain access for you :) Failing that, brick+window = access, a new window is not that much and its quite easy to fit.
