laying dpc should this be on mortar or not?

Crikey, i thought i had asked a simple questions that probably had a simple answer. Thanks for all the input. I have started the work and lapped the DPM over the blockwork, then laid a thin mortar with DPC and then laid blocks on 10mm mortar as normal.

laying dpc should this be on mortar or not?

Right, now i am confused. I like the idea of only lapping the DPM by 50mm. It has concerned me that the only thing holding the wall in place is its own weight as the mortar surely can not get a good key on a smooth peice of plastic. It looks like i fold over the DPM onto the breezeblock, lay a...

I am ready to lay the DPC before building my walls up. I have laid the blocks work up to DPC and installed the concrete slab. The slab DPM over laps the wall. Questions are a) should the DPM be fitted above or below the DPC roll? b) should there be mortar, below, between, and above each...

Best way of fixing slate copings

I have built a patio surrounded by block walls with slate paving. I have used small pieces of slate to cap the walls however the mortar that i laid them on was not enough as over the winter they all became loose. What is the best thing for laying these? bear in mind they are all around 2 foot...

    DPM external corner detail

I have been installing my DPM which i have done before on other projects, however this time i have an unusual shape. It is a squashed 'T' shape which means that as well as having 4 internal corners which can easily be pleasted, it has 2 external corners. I have read threads about simply cutting...

Thanks The wall is not 100mm. It is a cavity wall (90mm), both skins in Celcon solar as the outside is a combination of render and cedar cladding. Have already filled the cavity with concrete up to ground level (1 block below DPC) what mesh should i use, is it like plasterers lath? This...

laying new drains, what to fill the trench with.

I am laying new drains around my extension to serve my new bathroom and kitchen. I have read the code of practice for drainage but am not sure of a few things. I am using 110mm plastic but does this count as ridgid pipe or flexible. I am basically trying to work out what i should be laying the...

breeze block wall drying with loose blocks

I did think that but the weather hasnt been great and the blocks have been stored outside so i assumed they would be damp enough. Som of the blocks at the centre of my stacks were alot dryer so maybe it was these that have come loose. I shall have to make sure i dunk each block from now on. thanks

breeze block wall drying with loose blocks

I have laid the first couple of courses of breeze blocks for my extension. The are Celcon solar blocks laid with 5:1 mortar (builders sand, mastercrete cement and plasticiser). Most of the blocks have set ok however there are a couple of blocks that are loose and can be lifted off. There are a...
