Garden Wall Project - help required

Yes, this sounds sensible to me, the mortar bond will hold the tread in place on the concrete and the risers in place, and the concrete infill will hold the back of the riser for added measure.

Garden Wall Project - help required

No, he is saying use either as the footing for the riser, the infill should be concrete to hold the riser, and slab in place and keep the step together.

If thats the guidance, why change for the step? concerned about movement from foot traffic?

Garden Wall Project - help required

Assuming your first riser will be in line with the front of the wall as in your picture above, I would bed onto the concrete footing, assuming you'll have a strip foundation for the whole wall...

Cost of approx 22m of fetheredge panel fencing

A nuts sounds about right... A real shame you cant put up concrete posts as they would last a life time, done correctly of course. Assuming you are paying for it, you could just do it anyway so that it's done right first time if it is your fence. But I do understand the delicate balance...

Cost of approx 22m of fetheredge panel fencing

Any reason for the concrete gravel board and wooden post combo? I assume you are only asking about labour cost as you know your materials prices, just curious as to the above.

Laying a new block paving driveway

Would another problem of having a retaining wall not be that you would end up with a drop next to where a passenger or driver would exit the vehicle? You need to think of the edge detail you will use, would be good to use a kerb stone to hold the lot in, and also to ensure your adjacent...

Laying a new block paving driveway

Depending on existing ground type and anticipated compaction of your type 1, you may get away with a 1 in 2 slope, but this would be best if you offset the weight of the parked vehicle away from the edge of the slope. So your slope will cover approx 1m width of ground, but may be best to have a...

    Decking as summerhouse floor?

If the deck is larger than the summer house then it is likely you will get water ingress along the decking boards into the summer house...

    Closeboard fence advice

My personal experience is to use the 125mm boards, When putting them up, you have a 25mm overlap to "pin" the previous board in with, and this way, each board takes up 100mm of the fence, which makes it easier to calculate the number needed... 21m = 210 boards, you may want to add in a few...

    Raised Bed Construction

Its the water based stuff, but with a "special wax" to help prevent colour fade... I will be brush applying and will be putting down a bit of dust sheet to stop me painting the gravel I have down. Thanks for the response.

    Raised Bed Construction

Further question on this item, I have now built the frames out of the boards and posts and they are looking really good, I am wondering about colouring them with Ronseal fence and shed paint. I would only do this on the external face and I am using DPM between the boards and soil. my...

    Concrete posts and panel fencing.

With your idea of hiding the fence post behind a timber screen as you describe above, you could still use a 2.4m post but put 700 in the ground. (doesn't have to be 700 but using it as a guide...) The post won't be level with the top of the pannel, but it won't need to be as you won't see the...

Garden Wall Project - help required

Another thing to do will be to check that the volume of soil you have doesnt change, so that you don't have to get rid or import too much, this will save you money in the long run.

    Greenhouse Base

Extra head room seems like a great idea, as I have the blocks spare I will use these on top of a strip footing, this will also mean i won't have to fork out £60 for the base section! Thanks for the advice.

    Greenhouse Base

Or, having had another thought, can I just do a strip foundation of concrete and drill straight into that? I have no problem drilling into it and the concrete will provide the weight and stability, so why bother with the blocks? Thanks again.

    Greenhouse Base

Thanks kbdiy, I had a feeling that was the response I would get if I asked... which is a shame as I don't want to do it, but no doubt it is the old story of do it right first time or do it again and again. :D Guess i'll have to look at getting another ballast bag!!! Thanks.

    Greenhouse Base

Hello, I have searched the forum and know this can be done, but just wondering if i'm going to be doing it right. My plan is to have soil for the base of the greenhouse, not slabs, yes I know stuff will grow in the soil, but thats the idea... if I get bored of it I can always put some...

    Please help...made a mistake

ceres, you are absolutely correct, I was mostly referring to killing off weeds. wrong choice of word I guess, but the idea is still there, I realise this is not the same as sterilizing soil in a greenhouse for instance.
