    Mouldy silicone

Good my eyes are still in good working order :) I’ve used masking tape extensively in the past, and still do occasionally, but for the large part I now used this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cramer-40405-5-Fugi-Kit/dp/B003BNLQQ0 Miles quicker and perfect every time - and no lip! When using...

    Mouldy silicone

Did you use masking tape to apply the silicone? I could be wrong due to the photo not being zoomed enough but it looks like there is quite an edge there where the meets the bath, a classic sign of masking tape being removed after smoothing. That’s where it looks like it’s gone mouldy and will be...

    Nest 3rd gen install questions

Unbelievable. Stem is one of the most if not the most helpful guys on this forum. If you do a bit of digging around you'll see how he helps and resolves issue after issue, he clearly isn't taking lightly your lack of basic understanding. Some things in life you can't afford to learn from...

Replacing thermostat with Nest - no neutral?

To close the loop on this in case someone miraculously stumbles across it, fitted today as detailed above, just disconnected the neutral.

Replacing thermostat with Nest - no neutral?

Im taking the power supply for the Nest from the existing fused switch to the boiler, not these thermostat terminals. Not sure that would be a very good idea

Replacing thermostat with Nest - no neutral?

Yes I'm aware of that but the neutral that powers the device is not the same as the neutral I'm talking about here that goes to existing stat. It's that I want to confirm if it is just removed either the Newt in place.

Replacing thermostat with Nest - no neutral?

First of all sorry, I'm loathe to post this as I know the information should be out there somewhere, but I just cannot find it. Pretty sure I know the answer but want to confirm. Fitting Nest for a family member, boiler is a Potterton Powermax 155x, he simply wants the thermostat replacing...

    Boiler pressure loss after service

    Boiler pressure loss after service

Ok, heating off for 3 hours, drop has slowed right down to about a drop every 3 minutes, but it's still there. Repressurised which didn't make it go any faster. I'll try and take a pressure reading overnight to see if it drops, that will give a clearer indication I guess.

    Boiler pressure loss after service

I've got one valve on the outside wall which is the PRV, and a pipe which runs outside into a drain which I assume is the condensate pipe.

    Boiler pressure loss after service

Thanks for the reply. I'm certain the PRV Is the primary cause of the pressure loss as I've seen the water dripping out and the pressure gauge in the red. So does the condensate still let out water after the boiler has stopped running for a while? I thought it should only run when heating or...

    Boiler pressure loss after service

Had the annual service on my WB Greenstar 37CDI last week, working fo ebut just decided to check the pressure last Thursday and noticed it at zero. After some investigation the pressure is going into the red and expanding out of the PRV, I've had this issue before so I know this should be...

    A 1981mm door I can take ~20mm off..?

It's the size of the doors. You're talking in mm here, small increments, depending on the competency of the person that constructed the door frames, movement, paint layers etc you're going to get differences. Have you measured the width at both the top at the bottom? These aren't likely to be...

    Painting new skirting

Thanks all, have ordered the knotting. Would you definitely not just use water based emulsion as the under coat? Was hoping to go with that as have plenty already in the house - would it leave a bad finish using this?

    Painting new skirting

Just fitted new skirting, bare timber. Going to paint with water based satin wood. What's the best way to minimise coats - go straight for the satin wood or put on some kind of under coat / whitewash?
