Loft light switch wired to plug

Ok finally got some pictures of this, see attached. The wire to the left coming out of the socket goes to the light. I've also checked and it is connected to the upstairs lighting circuit, not ring main. So my questions are: 1) is the light switch safe? 2) is the socket safe to use? Not...

Replace fused switch with single socket

Thank you. I'd like the freedom to be able to move it about, use in other rooms if required etc.

Replace fused switch with single socket

In my conservatory the previous owners had a panel heater hard wired into 13a fused switch. I have bought a new oil filled heater (2kw) which has a standard plug and I'd like to change the existing fused switch with a single plug socket. I've attached pictures of the front (black cable goes to...

    Boilermate ii gledhill boiler buzzing

No worries. I had to replace the the pump PCB twice and delay timer once in about 8 years. The first time I had to replace both at the same time, not sure if a fault in one then caused the other to go as well - hopefully not the same for you but just be prepared it is possible :-) I'd have...

    Boilermate ii gledhill boiler buzzing

Hi Jack197 - my previous house had one of these in, and like you I found that no one really knew much about them or wanted to go anywhere near it, so I had to try and work it out for myself. You'll see a few historic posts by me over the years on here :-) First, have a look at the Manual here...

Loft light switch wired to plug

Thanks for the replies all. Apologies for mixing up terminlogy. It is indeed a socket that is feeding a switch. No plug involved unless I plugged one into the socket :) Appreciate there's some investigation still required here so will do that and report back. No sign of an earth wire but view...

Loft light switch wired to plug

Went in the loft the other day and just thought I'd check how the light switch was wired by the previous owners. There are two surface mounted boxes butted up next to each other, one is a single plug socket (never used it), and the other the single switch in question. I was intrigued to find...

I'm not a popcorn person or a plumber but I do wish you'd learn what an apostrophe is, take some reading your posts the amount of pauses you create!

    New light on existing switch

Thanks a lot for the responses. Yes I could pull the neutral direct to the outside light which would make it a bit easier. No issues with the CPC. How do you pull a switch line through if I'm not replacing the existing cable? Don't know why I can grasp the electrical concepts but getting a...

    New light on existing switch

Yes of course I'd completely forgot about that - the other switch is in the kitchen. Damn - can't seem to find any how-to's of pulling a neutral from the light itself. The existing cable is in plastic casing up to the ceiling and then goes about 3 metre above the ceiling into the light. Is it...

    New light on existing switch

Hi all I'm wanting to install an outside security light which will go on the outside wall of my garage. On the inside of the same wall there is a single switch that operates the internal garage light. I was hoping to convert to the single to a double switch, with one switch controlling each...

How to top up glendhill boiler mate tank

Also just to be sure you haven't only opened them one at a time then closed them? You'd need the one in the tank open plus one or more of the others...

How to top up glendhill boiler mate tank

The only other thing I can think of if there isn't a fault with the valves is the service valve on the horizontal pipe may have also been closed, you could try quarter turning that with a screw driver.

How to top up glendhill boiler mate tank

So have you tried opening the one that's on the horizontal pipe before the flexible hose drops into the header?

How to top up glendhill boiler mate tank

So when you said you'd pushed down on the ball valve, how exactly did you do that when there isn't a ball valve? :-) That set-up isn't anything to do with the Boilermate by the looks of it. I'll defer to someone with more knowledge than me but that looks more like a filling loop glong into some...

How to top up glendhill boiler mate tank

When you look inside the header tank you should see a metal 'arm' connected to a ball. Under normal operation that ball drops when water level drops and lifts when water pushes it up. Squirt a bit of WD40 on the other end where the hinge is then push down directly above the ball. Let us know how...

How to top up glendhill boiler mate tank

The Boilermate should top itself up as it fills via a ball valve in the top of the F&E tank. If yours isn't then it's probably siezed up. All you need to do is push down on the ball valve carefully and it should start filling. A bit of WD40 should help free it up so it operates properly. Be...

Greenstar 32CDi pressure going too high

Thanks both. Is the expansion vessel easy to access on this boiler? And can I use the drain off which is underneath the boiler to reduce the pressure?
