Thanks, useful post. Enjoy your shower in the morning. To anyone else, I really do need some advice on whether the fan is the likely culprit or not?

please help - baxi solo 2 40 pf - fan? UPDATE - STRANGE!!

Guys, appreciate the advice and that you're saying the right thing. I've replaced this fan before, and got a corgi chap round to check everything over. Unfortunately, my financial situation doesn't allow me to call an engineer round to diagnose and replace - I'm not even sure how to pay...

please help - baxi solo 2 40 pf - fan? UPDATE - STRANGE!!

Hi all, need help desperately. The fan in this boiler has been getting noisy recently, then today, it just won't spin. It's a recon fan that I fitted about 2 years ago now, and it's done the same as the old one - the top parts have been scoring against the metal casing. In the last few...

baxi solo 2pf 40 - pilot light not coming on

Solenoid is arriving tomorrow, and I'm borrowing a mate's shower tonight, so hopefully that will solve the problem. I'll be back on here if it doesn't though! Thanks to everyone for their advice so far.

baxi solo 2pf 40 - pilot light not coming on

I'm going to have to borrow a mate's shower on Sunday evening, go to work Monday and hope to hell that a local place has the solenoid I need and leave work early enough to pick it up. I'm still hoping there's some way I can get it running just for long enough to get a tank of hot water...

baxi solo 2pf 40 - pilot light not coming on

No immersion I'm afraid :( Now where can I find a strong magnet.... IF that's the right thing to do?

thank you for your comments soggy weetabix. It's reassuring to hear that I was correct to assume that changing the solenoid doesn't interfere with the gas! I have also changed cam belts on 3 cars this year, and they are all still alive, and I'm not a qualified mechanic. My own car has done...

baxi solo 2pf 40 - pilot light not coming on

If it helps, I haven't had a drink in months. And as for smoking, I've been trying to give up - I only smoke about 5 roll ups a day. It's a filthy habit and expensive too so I am trying!! When I have some money, I intend to get a new boiler and re-plumb the whole house, but in the meantime...

baxi solo 2pf 40 - pilot light not coming on

gas2air, this is not a wind up! And yes I do drink and smoke, why?! agile - I must have missed you telling me how to test the solenoid, I've checked the resistance and there is approx 240V going across the terminals if that's what you mean? I don't know a local reputable engineer who can...

please someone!!! Do I need to go and buy a powerful magnet? I need some hot water, am desperate for a shower, I stink!!

baxi solo 2pf 40 - pilot light not coming on

thanks tony, at least I can be fairly sure the solenoid is the problem, that's a relief! I'm not surprised you wouldn't recommend how to keep the boiler going, but my imagination's letting me down!!! Would your earlier post explaining how the electromagnet grabs the pole in the valve...

baxi solo 2pf 40 - pilot light not coming on

Thank you Tony, very much appreciated. Is there any way of bypassing the solenoid so I can at least get enough hot water for a shower until I can get it fixed? Or, can I test it to ensure it is the solenoid that's at fault? I've stuck a screwdriver in the middle of it while the boiler's...

can someone explain to me exactly what the solenoid's job is please? Thanks.

baxi solo 2pf 40 - pilot light not coming on

agile - as I mentioned earlier, I'm not intending to mess around with gas connections. Unfortunately I'm in no position to get this fixed by a professional, am new to the area and don't want to get ripped off by a cowboy. I am getting deeper and deeper in debt at the moment and can barely...

baxi solo 2pf 40 - pilot light not coming on

powell30 I appreciate what you're saying, but I really don't have a choice. I'm not about to attempt doing something ridiculously dangerous, and between us, my mate and I aren't complete idiots (although it may seem it!) I'm not asking advice on changing the gas components, just want to avoid...

baxi solo 2pf 40 - pilot light not coming on

Thanks again Dave. The pilot injector is definitely not blocked completely, had that off and I can blow through it. Do these voltage readings indicate the solenoid then? Sorry for being dim, but can you explain how this is the case? My mate's arguing that he thinks the solenoid's ok...

baxi solo 2pf 40 - pilot light not coming on

Right, may be getting somewhere now! Famous last words. We have approx 240V at the solenoid. However, the two terminals on the right hand side of the control valve unit (http://www.abcotuk.co.uk/Product.asp?ProductId=P349&Catid=C2) have a reading of zero. Does this suggest the solenoid...

dave, hadn't seen your last post, thanks. Slough's over an hour away from me, so not sure it's worth it in case it's the wrong part. Could be worth seeing if they can deliver for me though. Anyway, just off to check for voltage at the control valve. What next, I can now do electrical checks!!

Gents, got the voltmeter working - there's 238 - 241 across the terminals on the solenoid, so the wiring is ok to here at least. What's next to check please?!! I'm learning..... slowly but surely....

thanks twgas, that's a relief the solenoids are the same. At £40 though it's a bit more of a dangerous punt if it doesn't work!
