    Now here's a funny thing....

The building regulations and The inspection regimes of modern day are more pervasive than ever. You may have noticed the propensity of builders to use phrases like "it's a feature" or "that's just character" in rather euphemistic fashion. This is actually taking the rise out of the "they...

    Two immersion tanks setup, possible?

Quite right, if webbygeeza was to connect the two tanks by cutting off the top of the bottom one, and the bottom of the top one and welding the two together, none of my concerns would be valid. In reality, I expect he's likely to be using something like a single length of 22mm with a couple of...

    Do-Gooders

Ironically, although there are masses of illegals getting into this country on a daily basis, on the other side of the coin, there are worthy cases being turned away. Did you hear about the Gurkas that have served the British Army for over 20 years, then had their applications to stay in the...

    Two immersion tanks setup, possible?

The main problem I can see here is that of the temperature gradient. In a single tank system, even when it has been heating for quite some time, and then left to stand, it will have piping hot water at the top, while the bottom is relatively tepid. As you use the hot water, the cool water...

Connecting Iron pipework to Copper pipework

I'm surprised that you haven't had any answers to this post from one of the regular plumbing chaps. I daresay they'd warn you about such things as "are you sure your boiler will support the additional radiator", etc.. But the basic issue you probably want answered is how to acheive a joint...

    Do-Gooders

Freddie, To a degree I can agree with you. We have suffered as a direct result of the immigration policies (or rather lack of them) introduced by this government, and many others before. The main problems seem to be from the illegals creating a criminal underclass. But we also have a lot...

    dog wee

Now let's think about this. Big Dog, pizzles on lawn, how do you stop the grass dying :? It doesn't take a genius to work out what is causing it. I recall a Tommy Cooper joke that went: A man goes to the doctor and says, "Doctor, it hurts whenever I do this". Doctor replies "Well don't...

    Do-Gooders

As long as you realise who the "scum bags" are. In the context of this thread, it's probably loony white British council idiots. Not the foreigners. Some of these pen pushers have a very peculiar view of what our immigrant population want. When they take these misconceptions into account...

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS - BEST BAND

Now this will probably wind you up, but I preferred the All Saints version of "under the bridge". I know they didn't write it, they didn't play any of the instruments and they'e a bunch of mindless morons, but I prefered the finished article. Sorry, but I think the Red Hot Chili peppers...

    parquet laying order

That's normal, but you may elect to put a border around first (say in basket weave), and then fill in the panel (say in herring bone) and leave the cuts upto the border 'til last. It's your floor, be creative, whatever floats your boat. Mitres work. If you want them, have them :D

    Do-Gooders

This has also been my experience. I have yet to find anyone actually offended by the phrases scorned by the PC Brigade. Although one of my mates (a Psychiatric consultant), was once reported for using the expression "black board" during a lecture to some student nurses. My bet is that...

    Joining skirting boards

There is also the alternative method of butting the joint. To achieve this you need to cut the end of one board to match the contour of the face of the board to which it butts (a bit trickier than a mitre cut). IMHO You pays your money and takes your choice. Although there are plumbers...

    Replacing door and frame

Normal practice is to have some temporary reinforcement fitted to the frame (such as a couple of diagonal braces across the corners and another one straight across the frame lower down). This holds the frame in shape while you fit it. You then remove the temporary supports, and fit the door.

    Now here's a funny thing....

I have to dissagree. You'll probably find that this house was originally going to have 25mm back boxes then, due to a bit of penny pinching, shallower boxes were installed. If gripfill was around at the time, you can bet they would have used it here. I have seen masses of poor workmanship...

    Concrete Mix Ratio ?

Oh, did I forget to suggest the PVA as an additive to make the concrete more waterproof :D No, don't do it, it's really not a good idea.

    Do-Gooders

Just a bit of background. In times gone by, when we were conquered by the Normans, they tried to ban the use of Anglo Saxon. Using it in public could be punished by death. Obviously the natives continued to use their own language for personal matters, but even this had to be done...

    dog wee

If you give him plenty of treats of grapes or rasins this will stop the peeing (they cause kidney failure in dogs). If this fails you could try adding plenty of onion to his food, or even chocolate. They can both be fatal to dogs.

    damp proof in shed

chiny, Sorry to see that you have no replies after patiently waiting for over a week. Are you still looking for suggestions? If so: What type of material are you intending to use for the chinchilla house? What dimensions will it have? Will this put its roof above the DPC of the main...

    Concrete Mix Ratio ?

Hello Mystic Wind and welcome. You should use a 6:1 mix (6 parts 20mm aggregate to 1 part Ordinary Portland cement). The word "aggregate" actually means that it includes all sizes upto and including. Therefore no need to add sand separately, it's already in there.
