    joint tape on TE plasterboard

Two coats, exactly as said the first coat is put on the plasterboard surface, a second ' top coat' if you like of plaster is then spread onto the surface of the first coat. As has been said, very few stud walls are perfectly true across their lenght, therefore 2 coats are put on to ensure...

How much should skimming my lounge cost?

According to your other posts you're a home owner - and as you so snootily said 'you don't have to do it for a living'. I'm talking from 20 years experience - so forgive me if I think I have an opinion on these matters. I now book work for nov 07 and have many satisfied customers, despite the...

How much should skimming my lounge cost?

I've never once had a potential customer ask to see my standard of work, nor have I met any plasterers who take potential clients to look at their previous work at somebody's property. Though if the plasterers who do it for a living want to contradict me on this please feel free. Go...

How much should skimming my lounge cost?

2 days labour at £200 per day plus materials and vat=£528 ish. I can't understand why he needs to hack back to the brick in order to attach metal beading. We would tack beading onto existing corner dowels and spread away. Try and get another quote

    Boarding out the van

My Transit was boarded out by our Ford dealers when new. 6mm ply for bodywork and 12mm ply for bulkhead. Had to bulk out some of the 6mm ply to fit racks and shelves, but otherwise seems fine to me.

    Sound Proofing

We recently did a conversion from a study to a music room. We used Isover acoustic grade insulation with 2 x 12.5mm board. This achieved extremely good results, though the problem area was the door opening. Eventually fitted a double entry door, problem solved. I know this isn't practicle for...

Is this a bad plastering job? (pics)..

You pays your money and takes your choice - does seem a bit pricey and for that money you should have got a tip top job. £200 per day plus materials is my price. :D

    Board Finish

Fred it won't be long before you're turning work down  By the way I always use multifinish, seem to buy bags and bags of the stuff so if any boards need skimming then thats what they get.

    B&Q

I think you're right Woody. Unless I'm buying bulk and can get a decent trade discount from the merchants I drift towards B&Q and Wickes too. I don't think I'm the only one either, just looking at the vans outside B&Q on a Monday morning here in Milton Keynes tells its own story.

    Plastering technique

You're right, there's no way a handy amatuar will match the quality of a pro plasterer - despite what people say on this forum

    Skimming ceilings

Down here a good plasterer would charge £200 per day plus materials.

    B&Q

Has anyone else experienced this - went into my local B&Q warehouse and found myself a Makita palm finishing sander for £39.99, looking at the same product in Screwfix it was nigh on £60 with vat. I've often looked at the the prices of some of the B&Q Dewalts and Makita and been amazed at the...

    Plastering technique

Good advice from Richard C. Not sure how much you actually need to plaster but try to avoid doing joining walls - wet on wet corners can be tricky, so try to do opposite walls to avoid this. If your plastering the ceiling and the walls then start with the ceiling first - though this is by far...

    New Plasterboard Ceiling

Sorry but with te plasterboard you dont need a sander - you generally work the edges in with a wet sponge

skirting boards again...mdf pre primed or pine

I generally only fit the pine skirting if the customer will want to stain them to allow the grain to show through. If the skirting is going to be painted then I use primed mdf.

    Skimming painted surfaces

Judging by the amount of ! in your message you sound a little uptight. I fully agree that proper preperation is absolutely vital to doing a good job. Your way obviously works for you - but I couldn't afford to prep the night before and I'm not sure what the customers would think either. The most...

    How Much

£200 per day is very reasonable - its all about supply and demand. Also as has been said when you take out all the legitimate expenses with running a business (all be it a small one) customers are not at all put off with these prices. If you quote for a job, and the customer accepts that price...
