Just a quick update from last week ,many thanks to all the replies it was the gas valve and being a lucky old so and so I had a mate who had a replacement. thanks again . I am now hooked on visiting every night just to see whats going on in the heating world :D :D :D

Thanks for help.I know many people who are very good plumbers but don't have "a badge" any more I agree we must be regulated but its just gone silly lately

yes thought it might be gas valve but they almost never brake down, Iam in trade and corgi registered but not much experience with such an old boiler, did try to bridge out overheat stat but once again no luck !!!!

cant get the pilot to stay on, changed thermcoupling but no joy, also changed over heat stat because it looked damaged still no joy any ideas?? :(
