    Sky from a central point.

Too true. Often ends up labgear crap with points wired in a ring lol

    Sky from a central point.

Personally I would stick to coax for uhf cable and satellite cable. Introducing baluns for the sake of it just ads un needed complications. I personally try and avoid using a single catagory cable for more than one application unless I have to. It leaves spare cores that can be used later if...

    Sky from a central point.

IRS - integrated reception system. Rf2 - 2nd coaxial output from sky reciever. Before you can get a definitive answer to exactly what you need cable wise you need to decide what equipment you are going to use. But twin cat6 single cat 5 and twin wf100 should cover most options. No need...

Changing mid position valve - Basic advice please

You shouldn't need to drain the hot water cylinder to change a mid position valve.

    Sky from a central point.

Sky won't get involved in anything of the sort. Besides some of their fitters barely know how to correctly install a mini dish, so you really wouldn't want them messing with anything more complicated. If you want it done right use a specialist installer that knows what they are doing. You can...

    burglar alarm

Your nail has likely speared a cable and triggered the tamper. As for anything else, no one is psychic, there was more than one alarm panel on the market in the early nineties.

DHW from a solid fuel Aga

I go back to you need better plumbers. I'm in my 30's and really don't have that much experience of gravity systems in practice, relatively speaking, but still know how they work. After all it's covered in level 2 nvq's but hey ho. The cylinder needs to be appropriatly sized for the aga...

Cistern Lid Problem - dodgy bathroom installation...

2nd on pictures. For the sounds of it, could a little of the plaster be removed from behind the cistern lid ? When the lids fitted it wouldn't be seen and the lid would fit right. A bit of a bodge I know, but you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear and all that.

DHW from a solid fuel Aga

You need better plumbers. Gravity fed systems aren't that complicated. Consider a thermal store, and benefit from mains pressure hot water, rather than anything else IMHO

    Smiths plinth radiator

I've fit loads of them, including in my own kitchen, and they work really well. 2 smaller ones either side of the kitchen would work better, but both ways should do the job. I've started offering them with a seperate room stat, using the stat to open a actuator on a TRV. Allows the...

Hole in the wall fireplace near timber studs? Help. + Pics

If your fire will get hotter than 49c on any part touching the plasterboard, it shouldn't be inserted into a plasterboard wall. http://www.british-gypsum.com/Technical-Advice/FAQs If it turns out it won't get hotter than 49c, then you need to remove the timber, and re-frame in metal...

Radiator Pipes / new style rads?

I would use compression. But if you have to use speed fit you need to take the chrome off the pipe for the insertion depth of the fitting. About 25mm for 15mm if memory serves.

    Chimney Balloon for woodburning stove

Chimsoc do a number of balloons and there is a little tag on them that hangs out the flue to remind you it is there. I don't know how long one would last being removed a few times a week and I wouldn't recommend one in your situation. It would be far too easy to forget it's there. Definitely...
