    Bending Battens to Curved Bay

You've probably already started it by now but it is doable in battens but you'll need to kerf the back have two of you and use a kettle to be successful. And be prepared for some failure before they bend without cracking.

    Bending Battens to Curved Bay

Ah, is this what I should have done anyway? Saw your message a little too late, me and the missus have been pouring boiling water over the battens all morning! The cups of tea we could have had with the water is sacrilege! All battened out now, have got 10mm different from the left to right...

    Bending Battens to Curved Bay

Morning, I meant the v shaped lead clips that they use instead of the lead wedges to secure flashing in a mortar chase. Can see what you mean about yours. Thanks

    Bending Battens to Curved Bay

Morning all, Setting out today and following the advice to have an eaves tile at the top. Can't work out how it's possible to do this without having to stick to the 125mm exposure that It creates. The plain tile below the eaves touches the batten above resulting in the 125mm exposure. The...

where to put new water mains?

Hello, Wish I'd have thought of this before I poured the footings! Wanting to replace my water mains as we're on a galvanised 15mm system. But the position that I'd like to bring the ducting up goes straight through (or under) the footings for the front of the garage. Can I go under the new...

full tile at verge? simple novice question

Afternoon, has anyone shed some light on how the lead is supposed to look at the corner? If I fold it down or around I'll have to cut the lead but will that leave a gap? Thanks

    Bending Battens to Curved Bay

Looks ace mate, very impressed by the final product. Now the pressure is on. how did you get the eaves course to kick up? Two layers? Did you lead clip the top? I'm setting mine out today and was going to attach the flashing to the top batten and then fold over after. Somehow.... Snapped a...

    Bending Battens to Curved Bay

Thanks for the reply, so leave the lead as is? You're going to hate this but I've removed the step flashings now and wasn't intending on refitting. The plan was to tile really tight to the brickwork as we aren't in an exposed area. Is it imperative that it's fitted? I'm going for the same as...

full tile at verge? simple novice question

Getting somewhere near with this now. Waiting till the mortar has set a bit before I shape the lead near the verge. Has anyone got a decent photo showing how this should look? Thanks

    Bending Battens to Curved Bay

Current progress on mine, insulated and membraned up. Noticed that the curve of he bay doesn't match the angles of the sill so am thinking I'll need to counter batten out the sides to get it looking right? I've double layered the bottom section of the bay to form a run off should rainwater...

    Bending Battens to Curved Bay

That was exactly my thoughts, short of removing the window is there any other way?

    Bending Battens to Curved Bay

Thanks for the reply. I didn't even know that they made such a thing, I've never seen one fitted on any house round here. I'd imagine that the entire bay window needs to be removed in order to fit one of these after fabricating one so it can sit upon the tray? Would require a huge amount of...

    Bending Battens to Curved Bay

I'm still clueless what to do with that haha. I'm just seeing a chimney apron when I'm visualising it. All mine had when I ripped it off was some 150mm lead screwed into the top of the tile. It looked awful even from 20m away! I might have to go and dismantle someone's bay window to understand!

    Bending Battens to Curved Bay

That's just gone whoosh straight over my head. I can picture the eaves tile set up but I didn't get the frame bit. I'm picturing the lead being behind the very top batten and then folded down so it forms a sort or J shape once it's all together.

    Bending Battens to Curved Bay

Datarebal, could you elaborate on the top flashing a bit? I was thinking of doing mine in three 1.2m sections with the middle section being the top layer, and forming an inch deep lip, cut in finger like sections so it'll fold around the curve of the bay, then lead clipping it into the gap...

    Bending Battens to Curved Bay

I don't like the look of lead new or old. I know that it's a necessity for the top row of tiles but couldn't really see it being a problem at the sides. I've repointed mine after removing the flashings and accompanied by the membrane beneath the tiles I can't see it being a problem if it's not...

full tile at verge? simple novice question

It's because the tile and a halfs have the holes in a different place so it looks like a normal tile. It's definitely a tile and a half

    neighbors driveway footings question.

Reason being is that we've had prior run ins with the neighbours and we had to get the police involved which ended up with a forced apology from said neighbour, she's now on the war path and will be looking for something like this as she doesn't have anything else to to fill her day. I'm quite...

    Bending Battens to Curved Bay

Really appreciate you taking the time to reply and put some photos up. When its light outside again I'll take a photo of current progress. See what you mean now about the reinforcing strips. Can't see it being a problem as that wood glue is very decent stuff. I suppose the battens will ease...
