Radiator plumbed in to hot water circuit

I did wonder why the writing on it is upside down! It was installed before I bought the house so I don't know if I can track down the culprit. I wonder what else is wrong. Dilalio, can you explain your question please? You mean it shouldn't be in the garage where it could freeze?

Radiator plumbed in to hot water circuit

Thanks all, thought it was a bit odd. I think I can at least move the HW valve so the radiator will be on when HW circuit is on. To replumb it directly across flow & return would be too big a job I think due to the layout of the current pipework.

Magnetic filter, should I be cleaning it?

That's useful to know, thanks for your help.

Radiator plumbed in to hot water circuit

My bathroom radiator is plumbed into the hot water circuit (2 x 2 port system), which I think is not unusual but I would have thought it should be connected before the 2 port valve so it is always on when hot water is on. As it is in fact fed from after the valve, when the hot tank is up to...

Magnetic filter, should I be cleaning it?

I've got this magnetic filter in the return to my boiler, is it something that needs to be maintained in any way, e.g. washed out now and then? I have recently moved in to the house so wasn't around when it was installed, presumably with the new boiler next to it. Thanks for any...

So simple it's brilliant, thanks a lot.

    Manhole slightly larger than cover

I had to replace 2 manhole covers in my back garden as the existing ones were rusting away (including the frames). Unfortunately I only measured one, because after replacing the first with no problem I discovered the second was slightly bigger, in fact about 10mm bigger all round than the...

Convert cemented in down pipe to open gully

Tried to dig down today, there is tarmac under the shingle so I didn't get very far. The downpipe is stuck fast, I tried to twist it out as best I could but not a hint of movement. I might try to break it out of the tarmac when I have a bit more time, on the other hand the whole guttering system...

Convert cemented in down pipe to open gully

Ken thank you very much, I can see this isn't going to be a 10 minute job. The surface is just shingle but I think there is a layer of tarmac underneath - unfortunately I don't have evenings free to work on it but I will start on Saturday. If it ends up needing a metre of digging then I will...

Convert cemented in down pipe to open gully

Sorry I should have said, the pipes are plastic. Thanks for the comprehensive help, I think you're right that digging down would be a good start to see what I'm dealing with. If I manage the job and end up with the top of the gully at ground level, should I build something around it? I've...

Convert cemented in down pipe to open gully

I have just moved in to a house with guttering downpipes that appear to be quite solidly cemented into the ground, presumably connecting to main drainage below the surface. The downpipes are full to a height of about four feet with moss, causing leakage further up. I'll obviously have to remove...

Building shed on brick paving - advice please

Let us know if you do hear back from them, just for entertainment. I wonder if they have improved on their 'electrical problems' excuse. I did actually get my shed in the end, although their installers cocked up the roof and the rain comes in through the joints in the felt. The walls and floor...

Building shed on brick paving - advice please

They spun me a story about having electrical problems on their industrial estate, giving this as the reason for not turning up and not letting me know. A quick call to a couple of other companies on the same estate revealed that there had been no such problems. However they offered me another...

Building shed on brick paving - advice please

Well you deserve some sort of award for getting hold of them. Until the actual delivery date they had been quite efficient in letting me know what was happening when, but suddenly they stopped communicating, and like you I wasted a day off work for the delivery. Rather difficult to get the...

Building shed on brick paving - advice please

Just in case anyone should pick up a recommendation of Urban Forest from here: they appear to be out of business as of the last couple of weeks. They have my deposit, never showed up on delivery date and don't answer any form of contact.

    Ballast instead of scalpings?

Thanks all for your help, I'm going with 3"/3" using ballast to top up and fill in the hardcore. My method of compacting consists of hitting it with a club hammer and stamping on it, I hope that will suffice but we'll see in a few months' time!

    Ballast instead of scalpings?

Thanks, it's only a garden shed so nothing heavier than a lawn mower in it. 6" seems a lot, I hope it won't need that much or I've got some more digging to do. I'm not sure what 'refusal' means in this context - can someone enlighten me please?
