    Which trade costs the most?

Your, far fetched, analogy is somewhat flawed I think. Unless you are saying you are good at being a contractor but cr*p at everything else.

    Fence - laws and regulations

You can go upto 2M high without PP but it often looks odd that high. I'd go for four foot with two foot of trellis and grow a creeper or something. Of course you could always brick up their window.

    decorating fence

You can always break it up with trellis. Fixed on and in front of the fence panel not sitting on top (if you see what I mean). Then you can use plants in pots (biggish pots) and grow things like clematis or ornamental bushes and trees etc.

    wood laminate flooring

I did my bathroom using Laminate that was designed for the job (Kitchens and Bathrooms). It wasn't cheap but I've had no problems with it. Only thing is it looks sort of 'plasticy'? to me and I don't think I would use it again.

    Plug top wired incorrectly!

I think that is a fair enough assesment of the general situation re DIY work. having read many of the threads, on all subjects, I often get a cold chill run down my spine. I pity the poor sods who might buy or move into a house 'rewired' , 'replumbed' or 'modernised' by someone who in all faith...

    Rules regarding door locations?

I saw this on a recent TV prog don't know if it applies to yours - If you have a door opening on to stairs the building regs say door must be at 90 degrees to the staircase with a platform (I think they said a metre but not sure on that)? Not opening in such a way as to step directly onto stairs...

Problem with Drive F : CDRW

Err did I say PC's came with 40MB? Don't think I did. And I think you'll find most PC specs state 256MB as entry level.

Problem with Drive F : CDRW

Errrr no they're not. The OS allocates processor time, the processor only performs one set of instructions from whatever program the OS has decided should have its attention at that time. It may cycle instructions or execute them dependant on instructions it has received. That is NOT true...

Problem with Drive F : CDRW

XP will run quite 'happily' with 40 meg of RAM, whether the user will be happy with its performance is doubtful especially if they start loading anything other than notepad. To get any credible performance from XP you need at least 512MB Ram and preferably much more. Yes I know Dos and...

    Getting into routing

I wouldn't buy the best router until you discover if routing is for you. Then again don't but the cheapest as they will struggle with most jobs and will give a poor finish and may put you off. Get a midrange Trend and you won't go far wrong. If decide you want to do dados etc. then you would be...

building a desk - veneered mdf or ply?

If your desk is anything like mine, contents I mean - not design, then 1" will not be thick enough as it will bow. Have you thought of using kiln dried, planned all round 'strips' of hardwood or even a decent softwood ? You will need to glue the edges on the top and you could use the same size...

Problem with Drive F : CDRW

Version no's are usually in the programs Help>About menu. SVCD_X.IMP Seems to be a file from Cyberlink Power DVD so may be on an install disk. The other one is available fromHere should you need it.

Problem with Drive F : CDRW

XP is ME updated? Nooooooo tis not. Completely different as it's based on NT source and does not sit on dos. I'm not too keen on it either far too many annoying bugs and unnecessary bells and whistles for my liking, plus it needs bucket loads of RAM to work well. Maybe Windows Leghorn (Longhorn)...

Problem with Drive F : CDRW

Does that happen with any disc or just recordables? If it's any disc then drive lens either needs cleaning or IDE cable is loose or drive is buggad. Sometimes just rebooting will sort out errors. With the price of drives so low at the moment it aint worth messing about with possibly faulty...
