    Canadian equipment

Can someone explain ( in terms suitable for an ageing, faded brain) why we do use 110v on sites but 240v in domestic situations? I have a friend living in Florida who makes regular trips back here and has said he will bring any tool I want ( I was looking for a router, Dewalt, at the time and...

    big PC problem?

Don't think it's a case of you 'doing something wrong' BR, it's just that having had many years (too many) working with systems that run on MS OS's (god bless 'em) I've had the errrr.. 'opportunity' to find out the quickest way to get someones computer up and running again with minimal personal...

    big PC problem?

Me to, many dozens, if not hundreds, of times and I've never had the experience where doing so wipes any data not directly associated with the OS. It WILL replace any updated system files with earlier versions hence the need to reinstall any 'service packs' (bug fixes). It will also overwrite...

    big PC problem?

The only time a re-install should wipe the disk is if you are using a complete restore CD that came with the computer. Other than that almost all Win os's will do a reinstall if you have an original windows disc i.e. just the operating system. NT, 2000 and XP do as you say have a repair...

    big PC problem?

At the C:\ prompt type dir/p it should tell you what is on your drive one screen at a time. If it says everything that should be there is then I would strongly suspect a virus of some sort. Do you have a boot floppy? If so then boot with that and type c: then c:\dir/p and see what that says...

    Just Depressed

Quite true as the same happened to me. Seller b*gg*r*d about adding silly clauses, lawyers argued about silly clauses, six weeks in the seller then went and sold to someone else despite having accepted my offer. I'm really glad now as the place I eventually got was bigger, much nicer and had a...

    Source code on my website

Looks OK to me. The e-mail link is white because I think you have set it to be so, twice as far as I can see. Delete both and try again using just 'color = Blue' and see if that helps. HTH

    Source code on my website

You're right they are important as many if not all engines will use them, but they are not as important as they once were in my view. Re the gif - it does it's job well, that's the problem. If coggy wanted to keep it I'd suggest putting it at the bottom of the page.

No problem Coggy, the link I just added to my last post will also give you help in multi search engine submissions. Good luck with your site.

Hi, if I might make a few suggestions based on personal experience. Lose the animated gif as it's distracting focus away from the message you are trying to get across, maybe move your logo to where it was. Have another go with the page title, not that it's crucial, as it doesn't seem too clear...

    Which trade costs the most?

Of course having the necessaries that says you can do the job properly doesn't necessarily = the job getting done properly. I'd prefer someone who is competent and has pride in their work, whether they're fully qualified or not, rather than just go for someone with the papers. As yet I've read...

    cold water tank..

I'm not sure to be honest, probably they would if you 'bugged' them enough about it. Don't expect them to hurry though, I reported a substantial leak to them once - it took them about 6 weeks to do anything about it. Failing that why not get a plumber in to do it? Shouldn't cost that...

    cold water tank..

That's quite possible. When I first moved into my flat I couldn't find the Elec. meter? When I got the first bill it was horrendous; it turned out that downstairs had the meter (for both of us) yet it was in my name so got the bill? Strange that. I refused to pay anything until the...

    power tool care and use

Have you tried using a teflon based spray? There's another one on the market called GT80 which is PTFE based. Both dry off after spraying leaving a dry coating so no dust or dirt sticks. It was originally produced for top end Mountain Bikes so that dirt would not stick so easily and ruin the...

The wonders of owning an Angle Grinder

Yes but they're not that common which is a shame as the trigger was on the underside and much easier to operate safely. Which brings me to another point. Been using angle grinders for years now, air and electric, 4.5 and 9" and there's one thing I've never really sussed - why in these days of...
