    House extension quote seems exessive

I think it's the word modest that the OP is questioning. He doesn't appear to begrudge anyone a living, just wants to be sure he's not being ripped -off. By the way, I'm in Lancashire too, don't go for a flat roof !!

    Car Question

Sorry, can't see the maxi - Funnily enough I passed an old maxi last night and it didn't look anything like this design. I think that the old Peugeot 204 had the sculpted in door handles and they were 70s.

    Car Question

I take the point about the 127, but studying the front reminds me of a viva. If you look long enough though I'm sure it would remind of several other cars from that period. It even looks alittle like the early polo from the side. It's certainly a long way from any other BL designs.

Reminds me of the Mark 1 Fiesta.

    Vertical cracks on internal wall

I agree with Derek, they just look like the sort of cracks you find in old houses when you start stripping off the wallpaper. If you are worried, just chip some of the plaster off and see if the crack is in the bricks as well - Are there any other signs of subsidence ? Surely your surveyor...

    D'oh. Used interior paint outside....

Well, I agree that it won't last as long if it's not for exterior use, but surely in 2012 there are exterior paints with a finish other than gloss ??

    D'oh. Used interior paint outside....

Either really, another coat won't do it any harm, or just leave it and find out what happens, it's done now ! Personally I'd find out first from Leyland's website if it is suitable for exterior use. If it is, no problem, if it isn't, then put another coat on of a paint that is ! 8)

Decorated my living room but having issues

Since it's only been a couple of days, the emulsion should go on ok in the section near the edge and match in ok. I haven't watched the Youtube clip, so I don't know which way they show how to do it, but as a seasoned DIYer, I always find it easiest to cut in the skirting boards last, not the...

Help. Painting uneven stripes on a wall

Symmetrical or random is surely down to personal preference. Why don't you draw it and see what it looks like before stating on the wall. It'll be easier to change on a piece of paper if you don't like it. :D

BAS cynical - perish the thought ! He was right though, Sodium Chlorate would kill it - he never said it was legal !

    Crossing The Road

Well, you said it, back in the 60s. Traffic was not only lighter, it was virtually non-existant compared with today's traffic. I assume from your tale of the old days that since you were on your way to school, neither you or your siblings was 2 years old at the time? Just because people...

    yet another damp garden question...

All of this advise will help you improve your lawn, but if it is "water logged" as you say, the only way you are going to improve it long term is to put drainage in.

    Crossing The Road

Well, I suppose I've got to agree there is that undelying trend. I try to look at the points on their merit and ignore the underlying implications of the mis-guided.

    Replace Garden Retaining Wall

It sounds like there were no drain holes in the wall when it was first built. You need to give the water a way to escape when it builds up behnd the wall, otherwise it will bow as yours has. I don't see why you couldn't re-build it, it doesn't appear particularly high, but as per the first...

    Crossing The Road

What makes you say that ? There's nothing racist in any of this thread. It is an absolute tragedy, and I hope the driver is found and prosecuted, it's a despicable thing to do - hit and run. However, whatever the colour of the children, they shouldn't be out crossing the road at that age...

    Racist women on bus

I agree, it's banter, but where do you draw the line ? Some of the so called racism in the Uk is light hearted and would for the thicker skinned just be considered banter, but to some people it's unacceptable in any form.
