    Clematis Advice

I was going to say I'm up in God's county with you, but I didn't want the thread to go off at a tangent about different areas of the country. Thanks for everyone's advice, I've bought another Montana ( Different colour to Elizabeth ), A passion Flower and have some other Passion Flower...

    Sub Base for Patio

Of course you can, we're taxed to death, but it's a free country when it comes to re-using your own rubble on your own property  However, you're going to need something to even it out, maybe a sandy mix with the rubble or on top of the rubble, mixed with smaller aggregate ??

    Clematis Advice

Thanks D2. When I say Manchester, it's a generalisation, most people don't recognise the place I live if I tell them, so I just say manchester, find it easier. I'm actually in Lancashire :D :D :D :D

    Clematis Advice

Thanks Susie, I was thinking about growing something else in between or the other way around, I'll have to try Passion Flower, the Honeysucle and Jasmine route hasn't worked very well for me either in the past. I think it may well be a combination of the soil type we have and the climate in...

    Quick decking question

Basically if you use the 145mm boards you will have less to screw down, just calculate the price differential. As regards the supports, 1500mm is too wide, should be about 600mm or you will get a very springy deck. See below:- http://www.diydeals.com/4m_wide_GD.htm

    Faking rock with concrete

In answer to your question then, I don't think you can  There are colourants that you can add to cement, but you will need quite a lot to get the colour youdesire in 3" concrete. As for the Rock Texture i don't think you can, what about pattern imprinted concrete ?? Or dropping...

    Clematis Advice

Thank you everyone, looks like I'll have to just persevre with other types if I want later flowering ones. The problem I've found though is that they tend to want to grow at an alarming rate, get too high and then have no foliage or flowers in the lower sections and threading them through...

    Clematis Advice

I've never had much luck with Clematis, until two years ago when I discovered Montana Elizabeth. Grows for fun, really good spread and a good show of flowers in April/May. Since I've been successful with this variety, I want to plant more along the fence, but I need different colour(s) and a...

    Garden upgrade!

Personally I would dig up the old lawn, unless it's a good one that just needs some seeding in certain areas? If it's in a poor state then it's best to get rid of it, so that you clear out as much weed as possible, before you dig the area over, level it and then seed or turf, depending upon...

    the budget

As I've said, reduce Stamp Duty at the lower end to get the house market going. If houses start to sell they will actually bring in more money than they are at the moment. No sales, means no stamp duty. The economy needs stimilating, not making empty gestures of increasing stamp duty on...

The irony of that statement is that nobody actually voted for the current government. There was no box on the ballot papers for a coalition.
