    the budget

Depends really on how far back you want to go. A major contributor to the current situation is the near collapse of the banking system and that can be traced back to the Tory de-regulation of the Financial System.

    the budget

I whole heartedly agree, but that doesn't make the coalition policies correct.

No Joints Between Paving (Marshalls Woodstone)

The biggest problem with sand in the joints is that which you seem to get with all block paving, that of weed growth and moss. By the way, I think that paving looks great, particularly with that fine gravel finish around the edges. :D

    Draining Patio Towards House

Can't see why not, especially in your part of the country, they should be grateful to you for helping collect the water. :D

    the budget

Well, I didn't but we're all going to suffer. I thought I was hard done by with the retirement age increases, but apparently if you are 33 years old now, you will retire at 73 !! Where are all these jobs coming from for 70 year old people, you're basically on the scrap heap at 45 ...

Bird Nesting Boxes - Advice Please

Thanks Susan, but I'm not sure how relevant that information is, since the prevailing wind direction in Manchester UK may well be significantly different to that in Massachusetts. :D

Why don't you just turf it or grass seed it, you won't be having picnics in the wet weather?

How much to prune off tree

Well it's not going to die if you take as much as you want off it, so as long as you're allowed to cut it back, what's stopping you?

How much to prune off tree

I can't see why it would damage the tree, as long as you cut it cleanly and don't rip bark off below the cut. You can get sealer if you want to cover up the open surface. As per this link http://www.gardendirect.co.uk/garden-care/fruit-vegetable-garden/prune-seal

Yorkshire clay, water and my decking?

I suppose that's exactly what the grooves are for and there are probably millions of decks out there now, but I've been surprised how slippery they can become and it should be a consideration when you have them directly outside a door. There are decking boards that you can get with a grip...

Yorkshire clay, water and my decking?

If you're running decking around the edge of your property, please be aware of the slip risks. You will be amazed how slippery decking becomes when wet.

Building a 6ft fence in the garden

Could I just ask please why always use gravel boards whatever the method ? do they strengthen up the structure ? Kreighammer - I have used tanalised wooden post, 100 x 100 on my back garden fence and they have been in for 14 years now without problem ( touch wood ), although I have painted...

Dumb animals....... I dont think so.

That's a definition of fun ?? Sounds more like a life mantra. I think I've been misunderstood, I meant what is your definition of "fun" in the context of killing for fun. I can't think of an example where people kill for fun and then eat the meat and in that case, it could be argued that...

Dumb animals....... I dont think so.

And when does that happen ?? Fox hunting would be the first that sprung to mind and the dogs just tear it apart ( And they are other animals ) Most big game hunting has nothing to do with the meat - perhaps it's eaten as a by product, but that just helps someone to survive. How do you...

Dumb animals....... I dont think so.

That being the case, how did this thread end up discussing the merits of eating meat? Killing for "fun" would surely, by definition, not be for meat to eat. Killing for meat is an entirely different discussion.
