Damp, Condensation or something else...you decide.

Hi all, Thanks so much for the replies so far, have finally got around to chipping away the screed. As you can see from the pictures this is what I found. Is the best idea to remove all the hollow sounding parts and if dry, refill and then have a new top layer relaid? This is a long...

Thanks again Woody. The plan will be to remove it rather than put it back in. How does this look - layers borrowed from elsewhere on the forum... Also our house is on a raft foundation...any complications there? Posted: Tue Nov 02, 2010 5:48 pm 100mm compacted hard core. 25mm...

Damp, Condensation or something else...you decide.

Do I detect a hint of friendly sarcasm Joe? Im quite conscious of the fact of getting loads of people around with the little knowledge I do possess. I'd be happy when I've found someone I feel confident in to take the job if it's around the price I should be paying hence my post. People on here...

Damp, Condensation or something else...you decide.

Well have now had a few people around with different views. Both have concluded that the floor needs to be dug up and relaid. One said they would use a membrane and reconcrete and the othe said they would MOT, Sand, Inuslate with kingspan (didn't realise it was that structurally sound) and...

Damp, Condensation or something else...you decide.

Hey Woody! Cheers for the reply. Yep where the cracks are it is uneven as the concrete has risen. I'll have a read :-) if you have any links you thin may be useful please throw em at me. Thanks again for your time :-)

Damp, Condensation or something else...you decide.

Hey All! I have read a number of posts on here damp floors etc but thought Id post a few pictures to see what you thought based on being to actually see it rather than description. Basic survey on purchase picked up a 'possible damp' issue but being basic nothing else mentioned. When...

TV to act as a fire...

Hey! This may sound weird but there is some logic. We wanted a wall hung fire but to be honest we arent at all fussed about it providing heat as we want it really just for the effect. My plan was to get a small TV with built in DVD player and frame it with dark glass, just as a normal hire...

CH stuck on and not responding to timer

It was the PCB after all, all now fitted and correct. So much for the ferroli engineers very very poor diagnosis!

Plasterboard sits proud of frame...but its not that simple..

Ok so the proudest point is say 15mm deep from the original frame. So I will need to fill with an 18mm piece of wood to the old frame and then they will skim again in order to fit flush with that?

Plasterboard sits proud of frame...but its not that simple..

Micilin/joe, thanks for your replies, genuinely appreciated guys, thank you both. Just one last question though, why would the timber I fit be 3mm wider?

Plasterboard sits proud of frame...but its not that simple..

Hi newbee, I was planning to whack a 50/50 mis-coat on as soon as its dried out, was only finished Wednesday. We are planning on painting these walls but won't be doing it without the mis-coat first.

Thanks for your reply jo but what do you mean by mid air? In your experience then Joe what should be my next move?

Plasterboard sits proud of frame...but its not that simple..

They were Brits indeed. When you say it isn't smooth where do you mean. The walls themselves seem smooth it's just the bit around the doors that as I say seems uneven. Joe what would be your recommendation?

Plasterboard sits proud of frame...but its not that simple..

I think this will be the ideal result. Fit timber to the thickest part and get them to make it good to that level. It's the only way I can see me getting a flush finish with the architrave now. I'll grab a piece of timber later and get a photo taken...

Plasterboard sits proud of frame...but its not that simple..

Hey Andy, I had the same thought but if I get a piece of timber and put this all the way around at say for example the 15mm depth then when I fit the architrave at some poits it will be fine but at others there will be a gap and a rather large on at that in between the architrave and the...
