Programming DHW/CH independantly on an old Honeywell & CH bypass (pics)

Hello :D My Honeywell programme is one of these... I find it very annoying that it doesn't allow me to progamme the DWH and CH independently, i.e they both come on and turn off at the same time. I wouldn't be so bothered, expect that, when they are both one, the system seems to...

Unvented System - Groan/Water Hammer when opening hot faucet.

Hi again, Thanks v much for all the responses :) I just sat next to the cyl & EV while my wife operated the tap. It wasn't immediately obvious which the noise was coming from, but with one hand on each, I can certainly feel it coming from the EV, rather than the cyl. It was last 'serviced' in...

Unvented System - Groan/Water Hammer when opening hot faucet.

Sorry, I meant how can I confirm that its a pressure relief/cyl fault, rather than something like the inlet valve that the first poster mentioned?

Unvented System - Groan/Water Hammer when opening hot faucet.

Hi guys - cheers for the responses - Two quite different answers there, is there any way that I can give myself confidence it is/isn't the cyl pressure before spending £££ on calling someone out? Tom

Unvented System - Groan/Water Hammer when opening hot faucet.

Hi :D I had an unvenvted system. Its a 210litre high pressure cylinder in the loft with separate expansion vessel. The boiler is an OilStar oil-fuelled unit downstairs. The system provides DHW to four sinks in the house, and two showers. The pipework gives out quite a loud groan when we...

Dripping Overflow from unvented system (w/pics)

Finally had a qualified plumber round (took week to find someone who would actually turn up...the usual). Anyway - he put my own footpump on the expansion vessel and pumped it up. Sorted in 5 mins. Cost £42. If it goes flat again immediately i'll call them back to switch out the faulty...

Dripping Overflow from unvented system (w/pics)

OK guys, Cheers very much for the help. I learned a couple of things; 1) I'll need to get someone in to do this one 2) BernardGreen likes having a rant :D Will post back results for the benefit of future readers. If anyone is in the Norwich area and would like this job, PM me Tom

Dripping Overflow from unvented system (w/pics)

P.S! Actually - I'd read elsewhere that water would come out of the schrader is the rubber was split - It didn't, bone dry (h/w feed OFF). Could I check the rubber by turning the feed back ON and depressing the Schrader to see if water comes through? Tom

Dripping Overflow from unvented system (w/pics)

OK hello again :) Just had a look at the expansion vessel. With the H/W feed to cylinder OFF, and a hot faucet open - There is 0 PSI / 0 BAR pressure at the Schrader valve of the expansion vessel. I couldn't resist putting in a couple of pumps - The pressure begins to build for a moment but...

Dripping Overflow from unvented system (w/pics)

Hello guys thanks very much for all the responses, excuse me taking a week to post back again. Yes, you were right ref the Tundish showing the drip. Just to clarify - The tundish on the side of the hot unvented cylinder in the attic (as per orginal pic) reveals the drip which makes it's way to...

Dripping Overflow from unvented system (w/pics)

Hi :D Just moved into a new house - I'd got to know my old vented system pretty well and did quite a bit of successful DIY work on it. However - This new place has an unvented / pressurized system, and one of the overflows is dripping. For the H/W, in the attic there is a cylinder with a...

This driveway - Do I DIY resurface or get a company to replace?

Ok thanks very much for the replies. Any thoughts on the doorstep? Would I dig out and replace the doorstep first, laying new tarmac after, or tarmac then doorstep on top? If doorstep first, what base do Iay it on... compa ted screed? Concrete? Cheers, Ton

This driveway - Do I DIY resurface or get a company to replace?

A couple of additional questions, regardless of Option: - What would I want to lay the new doorstep on top of? Tarmac all the way, and lay on top of that? How will drainage work. The current slabs are just angled away from the house, they do not look good. - How should the ironworks be raised...

This driveway - Do I DIY resurface or get a company to replace?

Hi, I'm looking to sort out my tarmac driveway, hoping to achieve the following; - Making the whole thing flat. It is already 'flat' but areas have sunk - especially around where the weigh of the cars has been for the last 22yrs. another area is around the water meter cover (iron, meter set...

Overflow from vented C/H exp tank dripping - but ball cock not at fault?

Hi I just thought if anyone reads this in the future they might want to know the solution - The problem has been solved just by cutting back the vent pipe slightly at mentioned above. There is now no dripping, no condensation, and the water in the tank isn't hot. Tested for two days, seems...

Overflow from vented C/H exp tank dripping - but ball cock not at fault?

Hi Thanks very much to you all for the responses -Just got home. The overflow dripping still (slowly, as always). Checked the CH tank, level of water NOT up to the pipe. Level of water about 110mm deep (I assume this is tolerable, its well over the inlet, and well under the overflow). But the...

Overflow from vented C/H exp tank dripping - but ball cock not at fault?

P.S - Will raising the height of the C/H tank to the same height as the top of the water level in the cold water tank prevent water running between the two via the pin-hole in the coil (if there is one?)

Overflow from vented C/H exp tank dripping - but ball cock not at fault?

Cheers for the response - I was worried someone would give a response like that tho, argh! I put an S-flange on the cylinder for the shower pump, and replaced the 3-way valve a while back, but I think full cylinder replacement is beyond my DIY ability :( How can I be sure? I cant see if the...
