Internally insulating a small flat roof

I beg to differ. have seen it used to infill a void above a bathroom doorway which was once glazed. Leveled with plasterboard each side, later expanding foam was injected for soundproofing, the following day a noticable bulge was showing on both sides of the plasterboard panels and one side had...

Internally insulating a small flat roof

But if you pump in too much, when it expands it will then push the plasterboard down. I go with what "noseall" said, remove the plasterboard and insulate the void with Kingspan or celotex. Do not use polystyrene where it may come into contact with any cables as it can react with and degrade...

Fitting a washing machine in a bathroom cupboard

This was sent to me from the IEE some time ago: Provided the appliance is not portable, i.e. it is fixed or transportable, it may be used in the bathroom as long as it is installed in zone 3 or beyond. It must be directly wired or connected by means of a flexible cord to a fused connection...

    Thermostat change

Tell your friend to throw the tester screwdriver in the bin and get a multimeter. These things are nothing but screwdrivers and nothing more, the voltage may be caused by induction, the only way to be sure is with the proper equipment. I'm sure they would show voltage present even when picking...

Bypass on/off switch on Tefal iron?

I take it we may read the results of your work in the DIY disasters section later. It is not worth trying to repair some of these appliances and never assume that a switch is just a switch. some switches are custom made for manufactures and may include thermal cut-outs for safety. My...

    Slow-drying Condenser Dryer

our Zanussi works fine, but we do have to clean the Condenser Plate Unit from time to time or it gets blocked and restricts airflow and takes longer to dry anything. On the Zanussi the Condenser Unit is located on the bottom front of the dryer and just pulls out. I'm assuming that the dryer...

Washing machine. Is a fused spur absolutely necessary?

Why can't they put the max rating on the outside of the fitting, so people can see it...... Another thing makes me mad, is they still make those adapters that allow at least three plugs into one outlet. Have seen them being used on 6 point extension leads as well. Madness...... I feel much...

Washing machine. Is a fused spur absolutely necessary?

BS1363-2: 1995 specifies that outlets shall be labelled with their maximum rating. Therefore a 13 amp socket is rated at 13 amps. From MK All MK socket-outlets are manufactured to comply with BS1363 part 2: 1995 and are rated at 13A per unit. Double socket-outlets have been manufactured...

Washing machine. Is a fused spur absolutely necessary?

A radial circuit would also have 2 conductors per terminal, so to assume anything with electrical installations is not a good idea. I thought a 13 amp socket was rated at 13 amps. I know some double sockets have been tested to 26 amps, but I wouldn't want to rely on them to be safe.
