    1220x2440 OSB / 1200x2400 Celotex... am I missing something?

thanks for the maths! Actually, I DO have support at 3000mm on the right half and 2000mm on the left half. do you think that C16 47x100 will be okay for that? I'm aiming at a 75mm drop for 3m (though I'm having a b*gg*r of a job trying to find someone who will ship [inexpensive] firrings to...

    1220x2440 OSB / 1200x2400 Celotex... am I missing something?

Yep, wickes sell 1200x2440 t&g roof deck. It's £3 per sheet more than just plain old OSB. So, I guess I need to ask myself the question, is £3 more worth the hassle of cutting a strip of my OSB... I think it might be! ;)

    1220x2440 OSB / 1200x2400 Celotex... am I missing something?

I'd be fine with cutting, though... a - Seems a waste of materials b - Surely 'proper' builders would never stand for that extra work. Materials are a size for a reason. Look at the dimensions of a common brick, elegant design.

    1220x2440 OSB / 1200x2400 Celotex... am I missing something?

Designing my garden office roof. Warm deck, flat roof 10deg pitch 6m by 6m. Now, looking at the sizes of OSB verses the Celotex I want to put on the top of it, I'm noticing that generally the size of OSB is 1220 x 2440, which is going to set the spacing of my roof joists. But then when I come...

Help with garden office roof design.

I've seen some interesting composite panels that have: PLY>VB>PIR>Underlay all in one. Trouble is, how on earth do you seal those between the joints? You'd really only have the capfelt as the waterproofing.

Help with garden office roof design.

Hmmm... interesting. I see what you're saying. Though I did see a video somewhere where someone did someting like that and the joists rotted because condensation got trapped. I'd have to make sure that the insualtion was TIGHT to the top. Also, I assume that I'd then need a good vapour...

Help with garden office roof design.

Isn't that a COLD deck you're describing? As I understand from many hours reading and re reading about this, I'd then have to worry about ventilating the space under the deck, then there's the risk of condensation from the underside of the deck getting into the insulation. From what I...

Help with garden office roof design.

I think I have my design for the warm-deck flat roof on my garden office worked out but would like to get some opinions from the various experts here (thanks, all for the great advice so far). The roof is 6m x 6m, with a suitable slope for run-off. So, here's what I have so far working...

    batterns for 50mm celotex?

Righto, 70mm battens it is then. Now, the next layer in will be my vapour barrier and then PB. BUT... does anyone know if I NEED to have strapping between the VB and the PB? for the life of me I can't think why it's needed here and I cant seem to find any good reason for strapping other...

    batterns for 50mm celotex?

Yeah, I can see that'll work if you're doing that. But in a new build with lovely crisp flat straight angles everywhere(!) I suspect that's goig to bite me. There's a lumberyard near that does 50mm but I'm just kind of phased by the fact that Wickes don't sell "part A to fit Part B". One...

    batterns for 50mm celotex?

100mm rockwool between 600mm centres is suddenly looking attractive again! ;)

    batterns for 50mm celotex?

Yep, not worried about cutting it - a handsaw goes through it like butter, but guessing that they make it that wide for a reason. Plus, less studs, less cold-spots :) ... oh and less studs, less studs to BUY! The 18mm OSB3 sheath will give the structure plenty of strength.

    batterns for 50mm celotex?

You're a braver man than I. That was my first thought, but wouldn't it give the PB the excuse to bow? I might be placing my batterns at 1220 centres so I don't have to cut the celotex (except where there's windows & doors). Did you manage to get away with that yourself at all?

    batterns for 50mm celotex?

I'm building a garden office, and have just changed my mind in the insulation for the exterior wall design from 100mm rockwool to 50mm celotex (I can explain the thinking later, when I've gotten to the bottom of this question)... So, Wickes sell 50mm celotex, okay price, but nowhere in their...

    Insulation in garden office.

nice one delkus. Next thing: The rear of the unit is made from an existing single skin of breezeblocks (I'm extending an existing workshop). I won't be timber cladding the rear wall, just front and sides, so any advice on what layers to use there. I'm going to put rockwool>VB>PB on the...

    Insulation in garden office.

What, foil backed PB? Can't be, I hear you need an air spac for foil. Do elaborate, sounds interesting. (Oh, I'll probably get the stuff from Buildbase but Wickes has a better website for looking at materials and specs - then the final price is a pleasent surprise) It looks like whether I...

    Insulation in garden office.

Yes, I was just looking at those in Wickes. 100mm is £9.45 / sqm vs £10.07 for 50mm Celotex. (roughly the same insulation value?) Now, Celotex comes in 1200 wide sheets and the bats are 600. I was thinking that the stud spacing would be 600mm between centres, but would I need to cut the...

    Insulation in garden office.

I just read with some interest the thread: http://www.diynot.com/forums/building/new-project-garden-office-research-stage-help-needed.313707/ In which mointainwalker advocates using 100mm fibrewool insulation over 50mm celotex. I was VERY interested to hear that it gives a better...

    Drainage from Garden office.

(Also posted in Plumbing... but probably more suitable here in Building) I'm constructing a garden office and would appreciate a little advice on spec for a waste pipe from the installation to the nearest foul junction. The junction is on my property and about 20m from the location (straight...
