    Data/Server Rack Installation Requirements

I do know how to wire up circuits, i just wasnt sure about the loading and cable size which was why i seeked confirmation. Whether or not i was planning on doing it myself or not is irrelevant. This is a DIY Forum, and im sure 75% of the people on here carry out work without being qualified...

Maybe of interest to competent DIYers...

I agree, and im sure other Diy'ers will also agree. Apoligies that this is slightly off topic, its a 1 off post on this thread for me. I cant speak for everybody, and yes i know i have come on here and probably asked questions which make me sound in-competant, or stupid. But isnt that the...

    Data/Server Rack Installation Requirements

Well i might do anyway, but if i did do it myself i just wanted confirmation on the requirements, and some limited guidance to point me in the right direction. One reason i keep going over the same things is because i am cautious about safety.. and i never carry out any work unless i know its...

    Who needs circuit breakers?

Lol.. B&Q staff half the time dont even know themselves.. i was in there one time and heard 1 of their staff saying to a women, "you could always put the cable through a hosepipe or something to protect it" she wanted to run a cable from her house, to a garden building or something... He...

    Data/Server Rack Installation Requirements

I thought all sockets had to be RCD protected under the current regulations, Well i dont know if i am doing it or not.. just trying to get some advice and an idea of the requirements:) So, 4mm armoured radial with a means of isolation.. MCB? or Industrial single phase 3 pole Isolator...

    Data/Server Rack Installation Requirements

I know that lol, but under the regulations.. doesnt the circuit have to have an RCD? or RCBO protection?

    Data/Server Rack Installation Requirements

ok, Thanks for the confirmation, I know a ring is nessesary usually to reduce the load, so i would probably do that anyway, and if i didnt use SWA cable, it would all be mechanically protected in conduit, with a separate suitible earth wire to provide the earth for the rack cabinet. Just...

    Data/Server Rack Installation Requirements

So if a dedicated 32Amp ring was setup, which is protected by an RCBO and used 2.5mm Armoured, connected to an isolator, and used a 32amp industrial plug, and earthed the rack by means of using the SWA outer earth, would that cover the regulations pretty much?

    Data/Server Rack Installation Requirements

Thanks, so really, it dont need much more than an ordinary ring circuit dedicated to that rack, and adequate earthing and isolation.

    Data/Server Rack Installation Requirements

i probably will, just wanted advice on the requirements so i could see what is involved.. if its 4.5 Amp why does it say on the power supply 10amp? even says on the specifications on their website. and i know some data racks are shipped with 32Amp industrial 3 pin connectors on the PDUs

    Data/Server Rack Installation Requirements

the data is listed in the electrical catalogue, 10mm says 53amp. so what sized cable and setup would you recommend?

    Data/Server Rack Installation Requirements

The servers, 2 at present with this spec.. 3rd later on. They was custom builds, and are fitted with 1000Watt, Power supplies. And on the back of them, there is a Yellow Caution sticker, stating that it is dangerous if the wall outlet is not specified for 10amp... 15amp if its 125vac but...

    Data/Server Rack Installation Requirements

ok, so you recommend using 10mm 53amp cable? to feed the socket?

    Data/Server Rack Installation Requirements

yea i do see the problem lol, because ideally the cable should be the same as the MCB rating as for earth bonding not being required it is, it even says it in this post. http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=296880#296880 because of high earth leakage, and when you have 1000Watt...

    Data/Server Rack Installation Requirements

if there are 3 servers, each 10 amp at full load, that would add up to 30amp wouldnt it?... with a few amp extra for other bits and pieces, so 40Amp cable i would of thought would be required for that, so instead of a 50amp mcb, would 40amp be more ideal?.. i wouldnt of gone much below that with...

    Electricy Meter Being Changed, Isolater

well its ok for the people working on the feed into the house, because they are supposed to be approved contractors, and can pretty much cut or change what they like providing its done to the required standard. But when it comes to changing a consumer unit electricians arent supposed to cut...

    Data/Server Rack Installation Requirements

Hi, in the coming months there will be a job which involves installation of a Server Rack. So i was just wondering what kind of requirements are required, and the regulations. I understand the rack needs to be properly earth bonded, and that it would need its own separate electrical ring...

    Electricy Meter Being Changed, Isolater

Hi, Just wondered, but somebody is coming down next week to replace the Meter with a new one, if i ask for an isolater to be installed between the Meter and the Consumer unit, what are the chances of them installing it? Is it a requirement for the electricity company to install one if...

in reply to davy_owen_88, i am aware that you can do work but it has to be notified..however when you go through this process it can be more expensive than getting an electrician in the 1st place. i do have hundreds of pounds of test equipment, because i used to test all my electrical work...
