Best three way joiner for SWA

Because they're going to be mounted very low, it's a very small wall. It's very unlikely though, I try not to make a habit of scrapping my car's tyres along walls.

    Kenwood Chef A701A fault...

From your description it sounds like turning the knob switches the circuit into different value resistors, that then varies the voltage to the motor. Resistors are easy to find, Maplin, RS, Rapid, they should all do them. Just make sure it's the right resistance and wattage. As to how the knob...

Best three way joiner for SWA

Thanks guys. I'll use the plastic boxes, should look neater. They're going to be mounted on a wall next to my drive so only real risk is a car tyre scraping them, but that's very unlikely. Do you think it's worth getting some of the gel stuff to fill the boxes up with, to stop any moisture...

Best three way joiner for SWA

I'm needing to put three three way joints into an armoured cable I'm running for outdoor lights. The joints will be above ground and the SWA is 1.5mm. I'm wondering what people here would recommend as the best joiner. I've seen this in the Screwfix catalogue...

    Lamppost bases

i have four lampposts to fit up my drive way. One about six foot tall and three about three feet tall they all have bases with three holes for screws. I'm planing to put them in the lawn next to the drive. I was planing to dig holes about two feet deep and six inches round, run a flexible...

    Dusk till 11pm timer

That looks exactly what I want. But as Sheds says it is worryingly cheap. BTW Sheds, what does your name mean. Do you mean ban all garden sheds, or do you mean ban B&Q and their ilk? Sorry not to reply for so long. The email notifications of new posts stopped arriving for some reason.

    Dusk till 11pm timer

Yes it is a new circuit. But I having the garage rewired at the same time, and a new consumer unit in the house and putting in a circuit to power electric gates, so it's all notify able. I'm getting a sparky to do the new CUs so he'll check my design, do the final hook up and certify it.

    Dusk till 11pm timer

Okay, so this is how i think it'll end up looking. It should be fine i think. The three or four and earth depends on whether the photocell switches just the live, or live and neutral.

    Dusk till 11pm timer

Yes it's a standard domestic drive. 7 bulbs, and I'm using LEDs so it'll only be about 49W or something. I'll try and draw a picture later and upload it. But I like the idea of 333rocky333 of using four core and an inside junction box, that makes sense. I think I'm confusing myself as...

    Dusk till 11pm timer

What I need to do is for it to go supply>timer>dusk till dawn thing>t junction to one light on the front of the garage and four lights down the drive. Because of the arrangement of the house and lights there's only one sensible place to put the dusk till dawn sensor so it doesn't switch off due...

    Dusk till 11pm timer

I'm not explaining myself very well. The photocell unit itself must have a photocell, a few electronic bits and bobs to set sensitivity, and wether it's dusk thill dawn or dusk plus n hours, and then a relay to switch the 240v. What I was thinking is all of that bar the actual photocell could be...

    Dusk till 11pm timer

i want to power a light under the eaves of my garage, with the cable drilled through from inside, and then four posts down the drive from an armoured cable. it would save an outside join (an therefore weak point) if the dusk till dawn sensor could be inside. I am assuming the photocell for that...

    Dusk till 11pm timer

One more question. Does anyone know of a dusk till dawn sensor with a remote photocell (preferably wired). It would make the wiring easier if the box that does the switching could be in the garage next to the timer switch.

    Armoured cabling questions

Having read up it seems the colours in the three core SWA cable are that way so it's the same as three core and Earth. Makes sense in a way, but at the same time I would think most SWA cable is used in applications where brown/blue/green and yellow would be more use. @Spark 123. I'm going to...

    Dusk till 11pm timer

In my original question I was thinking about the photocell systems. I didn't know you could get a mechanical version. Thanks all for your help. I'm going to go for the 'lazy' way and have a timer in series with a photocell. Bit more wiring but a much easier option.

    Armoured cabling questions

ive been looking at running armoured cable down my drive, well I fact two cables, one for lights and one for an electric gate. All the cables I've seen are not coloured as I'd expect. Three core is brown/black/grey. So assuming you still use brown as live would I use black as neutral? And what...

Claylite sizing and excessive trench depth help?

How big is the tree Kevin? I think it's a case of there are no roots YET. For some trees their roots can extend further than their branches, and as deep as the tree is tall. Also in a hot summer an oak will suck the ground dry of any water, and with a heavy clay soil that would cause cracking...

    Dusk till 11pm timer

I'm installing some driveway lights and obviously nowadays they need to be auto controlled. What I really want is them on at dusk and off at 11pm or so. Is there a time switch that'll do this for me? I've found plenty of dusk till dawn, and dusk for x hours, but that's not really what I'm after...

    installing radiator behind plug socket

Is it still, possible to take off one side of the plasterboard? If it is I would do that and install some noggins in the stud work to secure the radiator to. If you can't make sure you get the right sort of anchors to attach the radiator brackets with as they are heavy, and plasterboard can be weak.

    Minimum door widths

The room is upstairs, so I don't think Part M would apply? Also the corridor at that point is 2.4m wide, so you can get square on to the door.
