Replacing front door in Victorian house

Always bespoke ive been told. I too have a door that large and everyone ive asked said they would make a frame from scratch and it needs to be strong on the hinge side as those doors weigh so much and put lots of force on the frame, compresses the bottom part of the frame and pulls away at the...

Vaillant EcoTec 831 - Help with setup

What I am surprised is that on the 4xx series they do not expose the PWM output for external pump use, do they only use it for the combi side, what is special about the other boilers that they can use PWM and not regular ones, I find this odd. I have a older 418 before ErP so I would be pre...

    Bathroom extractor

    1. do you need more extraction 2. is your inline fan got a timer on it 3. why not just replace with a single bigger unit, normally bigger will flow more air and can run slower thus quieter, but then you need to balance it otherwise all that nice hot air is just chucked outside while you are in...

Vaillant EcoTec 831 - Help with setup

Seems it was sized a combi which always becomes a compromise on the CH imo. Im fairly sure the pumps in the newer 8xx series are variable speed from what ive seen, essentially a UPS3 but using the PWM input.

Noted, missed the one pipe part.

    Double Trouble Radiators

says `Bi-Directional Valve Body` so its not the issue, they work on both sides just fine, take the TRV heads off and it should be at full flow, just to rule out some bad batch of TRVs are you able to check the pipe running under each radiator to see if they are warm though the whole run?

Vaillant EcoTec 831 - Help with setup

Doh I was looking in the first post but you had written it in the post title, slow morning for me. Do not get too hungup on the d40/d41, as long as the house satisfies in acceptable time, boiler does not keep overshooting and the return temp is at/under 50 then its working well. Give it a few...

Remote control of heating without Nest/Hive or similar

Its vaillant then look at their Vaillant controls as it will also allow the boiler to do full modulation with weather compensation, the VR920 module will add internet connectivity to the existing system. Its not a smart setup, just has remote access, if internet goes down it will continue doing...

Vaillant EcoTec 831 - Help with setup

Give it a try, see how your system runs, if it overshoots and if it maintains adequate temperature. What boiler do you have 4xx/6xx/8xx etc, do you have any other VR modules installed? Do you have a HW cylinder, what etc?

Vaillant EcoTec 831 - Help with setup

You need to get the BTU/KW value for each radiator, then calculate total requirement. Download steel rad catalogue to get guide figures. Then knowing heat loss of house to then finalise the calculation. If you have lowered it so much nad it keeps tripping out then you may have a flow rate issue...

Vaillant EcoTec 831 - Help with setup

d71 limits the max the control nob can be set to so the VRT should not go above that, if you lower the temp down to 65 then the boiler should run a longer burn between turning on/off, it may not even turn off, but running it lower you should look for d41 values around 50c or below to keep the...

    Boiler tripping RCD

can you run an extension lead to some other sockets in the house not on the same RCD then run the boiler controls off that, then see if the tripping moves With the main boiler circuit properly isolated. I would check for leakage between L-E and N-E on the boiler main circuit, problem is you may...

    Cold shower water

would you not check the hot and cold taps independently to check they have equal flow rate, not via the shower itself as if the fault is flow you would not know exactly if its flipping

    Vaillant 831 - D2 setting

If it's the same as my 418 I then it is anti-cycling control and its default of 20mins. https://myboiler.com/vaillant/vaillant-ecotec-boiler-anti-cycling-time/

My issue with thermo rad valves

Balancing is to make sure the hot water gets circulated around to the furthest radiators, remember water will take the path of least resistance, so the radiators closer to the boiler will get hot first, but not drop enough water temp which then goes back to boiler too hot and it modulates down...

    2000W electrical heater v Type 22 Horizontal

There are multiple factors. - does the electric heater have fans to force air movement - how long does it take for CH radiator temperature to rise to 2kw output, remember that electric heater will heat up far quicker as the second you turn it on 2kw is being dissipated into the coil and you will...

Vaillant VR66 wiring control centre causing heating modulation woes?

I have a VR66 but I am awaiting my VRC720f, ive got a regular boiler so I need HW priority and the module gives me that and also cylstat or NTC connections. If you have a system boiler the only reason I can see using the VR66 would be if you needed a trigger to tell the boiler that the cylinder...

Pros & Cons of Vaillant VRC700 controller

VR65/66 - this allows for HW priority and NTC/CylStat connections for HW tank on regular ecotec boilers which do not have built in diverter valve, only supports WC when in monozone mode, in multizone it will not support WC as it does not have ability to mix flow temps etc (VR65 monozone only)...
