Thank you kind souls. The opening is above double door ,1.9 metres wide. Would pointing with building sand/cement(4:1) be strong enough. Do not want to do it for short term.(Slate packers) aka blue slate chipping from garden cente. Correct me if I am wrong.

Help:Rebuild or install Rsj. Right way not bodge.

Thank you tony. Is there a rsj for 4x4. Why did they build arches and not normal stretcher bonds with the lintel. As it is going to be external wall, I suppose timber will not be suitable. Rest of process also to insert the lintel or rsj is going to be similar to taking off internal wall...

Freddy. When you say rebuild it, would that mean in laymans terms that rake the mortar out or completely remove and start from scratch.

Simon THANK YOU. So it is just a case of raking out mortar and refilling it with 4-1 sand cement. Possibly use strongboys to push it in upward position with accro.

1930 house half pebbledash half brick

Why do i see all these victorian era houses painted in red at the bottom. Fair enough point that the bricks used were different types or cheap but why used bloody red paint on a brick when it could have been painted the same colour as on the pebbledash/ or left as a natural brick colour...

Damp wall - caused by air brick at ground level?

Are you sure you have cavity walls not solid.Tony has covered everything so have a check. If you external level is too high then rain water may be splashing against the wall making it damp.Failed Dpc will add to water being sucked in through the bricks.
