    Roof Vent Madness

I recently moved into a bungalow and am planning a bit of renovation. The previous owner had had a lot of work done on grants, which I suspect may have something to do with the roofing - there's vent tiles fitted literally every couple of feet the entire way around the house. I had a roofer...

    Removing 2 load-bearing walls

Recently moved into a bungalow that we're doing some renovation on - it's got an extension on the rear (both walls in question are within the extension). My wife spoke to BC who advised that we would need an architect and a structural engineer - the engineer's involvement I understand, but not...

New feed need for 32A machine?

Thank you for highlighting the fact I'm not an electrician

New feed need for 32A machine?

I'm on hols atm so don't have all info but will provide what I know - the garage is supplied from an old style wire fuse CU just now but my mate was going to replace this with a modern style RCD one next week. The cable supplying the garage is on its own spur from CU and is probably about 20m...

New feed need for 32A machine?

I've got a garage workshop that I run some machinery from, at the moment there's the cable feeding power into the garage on a dual 32A RCD. I've just brought in a new machine that alone is 32A, so had a spark mate of mine come over to check it out. At first he reckoned we could replace the...

Install latch on door with multi-point lock?

I moved recently to a house with a solid wood door that has a multi-point lock system, however, we're missing the latch. It's not really practical to key-lock the door from the inside every time you come in the house. I wanted to fit a yale-type latch but I'm guessing there's lever in the...

New house, low pressure in 2 rooms but not all

Thanks for the replies - my mate came back around. Took cartridge out of tap and it was full of grit, others the same, looks like the main might be burst

New house, low pressure in 2 rooms but not all

Just moved into a new house and having a bit of bother with the pressure in the cold. The kitchen, upstairs en suite and bathroom sink pressures are all good but the bath cold and a little utility cupboard sink feed (which washing machine is hooked to) are all a trickle. Above the floor...

    Baxi 80e - thermistor issue?

Thanks, wasn't that though TW. Had engineer back out. Said return valve was dodgy (though didn't seem to have any issues before he replaced o-rings). Replaced return valve and the other valve next to it (as it had been dripping). Ran some inhibitor through it too - £160. Sound reasonable?

    Baxi 80e - thermistor issue?

Tried it again this morning, within a few seconds the first 2 LEDs were flashing again but I don't even think the flame was on at any point. Then went through the procedure of turning gas off etc but no change. Will get engineer back out & give him another run at it, he had been recommended.

    Baxi 80e - thermistor issue?

Thanks, figured to try letting it cool but 15 mins didn't do it (will try again in morning) before trying the gas off route. Think the pump is solid, engineer said it wasn't running too hot anyway.

    Baxi 80e - thermistor issue?

Ok, did as instructed and checked filter but it looked spotless (soft water area). Replaced and refilled boiler but forgot to vent - boiler had a lot of dripping water type noises internally and cut off. Bled the rads and realised there was a hell of a lot of air in the system (enough to...

    Baxi 80e - thermistor issue?

Thanks guru, how could that be unblocked? I also noticed it's 'kettling' again - it had been doing that a few months ago, but topping up pressure seemed to resolve it - but it's back, even at 1.5bar The rad in the hall (no TRV) is quite hot and large one in sitting room is not bad, but the...

    Baxi 80e - thermistor issue?

Recently had some work done on my boiler (some o-rings replaced after a couple of small drips). The engineer noticed the rads weren't heating very well after this work and said some sludge may have dislodged and to try to keep running the heating with TRVs open to try and push it through...

Ideas to bring Deck Handrail up to 1100mm for B/C?

It's just because I've sold the house Freddy, there's a possibility BC might need to come out (related to something else), so I thought I might need to address it.

Ideas to bring Deck Handrail up to 1100mm for B/C?

Ok, I may have to quote you on that though  E.g. from the page http://www.findtheneedle.co.uk/companies/timbertech-products-limited/products/decking-handrail-caps "baluster available to create 1100mm high handrails (to meet with Building Regulations for deck surfaces over 600m high)"

Ideas to bring Deck Handrail up to 1100mm for B/C?

Selling my house - just concerned the issue might be raised with concerns to building control? I know it's not usually an issue for decking but mine's is about 6ft off the ground, with stairs.

Ideas to bring Deck Handrail up to 1100mm for B/C?

Thanks r896, it's a little hard to visualise but I've got an idea of what's possible. I take it handrail & spindles would be lifted as a complete unit leaving the gap below (to be filled with trellis?).

Ideas to bring Deck Handrail up to 1100mm for B/C?

I've got an elevated deck and at that height the building control specifies that the handrail must be 1100mm - problem was, when the deck was built no local suppliers offered posts of a large enough height. So, at the moment the hand rail (same as pictured) is at 930mm or thereabouts, 1100mm...
