Ceiling and mist coat for kitchen ceilings

The Op is using a kitchen and bathroom paint as his chosen finish, not a good idea to use that as a miscoat, thats why I suggested a contract matt on top of new plaster. I know you can put a Vinyl on skimmed plaster, but less chance of any problems if he uses a contract underneath the kitchen...

    Madeline/ Daily Mail

I sometimes read a comic (the sun) , and the story is always in it. The only thing I think is wrong, is that this big detective Agency that is promising to find maddie should keep thier thoughts to themselves, and not have it printed all round the world. By them reporting thier...

    Thinning down emulsion

Your welcome :D , but make sure you do a miscoat on the Matt, thin it down by approx 20-25%. I find that 'gliddens' contract matt is very good, its quite thick, so you really need to thin it down for your miscoat, you buy it from any Dulux decorating centre, Its made by 'ICI' as was, that...

    Thinning down emulsion

Hi again NH, I see that you are going with the 'dulux kitchen/bathroom paint. Firstly I would advise not using that straight on new plastered walls, the properties in this paint are similar to Silk, and you dont use Silk paint on new plaster walls. Give your new plastered walls a miscoat of...

Which roller sleeve do I use?

Hello need help :D I would suggest a medium pile roller sleeve, go to your local DIY store, and you will see what looks like a tiger stripe sleeve, they are very good for the DIYer. But the trick to getting a flatter finish on flat walls, as well as using a medium or even short pile...

lol davy, that reminds me of another story, I was working on this new build site, and we all had a house each, I had pulled my back the day before and was up against it. I asked my friend who could use a paint brush to give me a hand for the day, as I knew I was slightly behind. Word got...

    Distemper, Painting Ceilings

You should be able to scrape it off using a wide edge stripping blade, after you get all the distemper off, give the ceiling a good wash with Sugar soap. I dont think you will need to buy expensive products for this, a bit of time, patience and elbow grease will do the trick. :D

    best brush for glossing doors

No, you dont need to do that on the Purdys they are synthetic, so you shouldnt have any probs with them, its the ordinary bristle brushes that loses the hairs. If dont do the soaking business, some of the hairs do come out, but when you go to use the brush again you shouldnt have much loss. :D

    Wallpaper - Children - Butterflies

if you cant find anything, couldnt you paint butterflys on the wall instead? after you have painted it ofcourse. You could get pics of butterflys and trace then on the walls, then colour them in, I have done similar with teddies, balloons etc, is was slow work, but looked great in the end. :D

    skimmed kitchen walls

Yes jessie you can, by why would you want to? lol Only joking, but I do hate silk, it should be banned. If its a skimmed coat, then I would do 2 very thin coats (miscoats) of your matt first. When you have done your first miscoat, you will lightly sand down, or even do some...

    best brush for glossing doors

Purdys are very good, I normally use a 2" or 2 and a half" When you buy a new brush like harris etc, always wash them first in soapy water, let them soak for an hour or so, rinse well, and spin the handle, (do it outside) lol till the bristles are completely dry, then rub a tiny bit of baby...

    Cutting in on coving

The best way is to do the coving first then do the walls. I find it easier if when you are painting your coving, you bring the white emulsion down on the wall a couple of inches. This will give you a smooth texture to make your cutting in with the colour easier. When your cutting on old...

    What should I do?

I agree with the above post, and this is from a female point of view. If I was having an affair, I definately would not leave my mobile around, I would either switch it off at weekends, or tell the lover to call at weekends. I cant think many women or even men would be so stupid to leave...

    Mixing work and pleasure

If you do go down that road, just be very careful, as it was the opposite with me when I worked for a building firm. I was the only female worker there, the guys that I worked with were great, we got on so well, they made the odd little remark, but it was part of the job, and they were...
