    Registration plate unseen tamper.

Can't get any joy from local so any Traffic cops out there can tell me if Photoblocker a transparent reflective spray for use on rear number plate to avoid detection of registration number by GATSO cameras by reflecting the flash. IS ITS USE ILLEGAL? I have been told it is not illegal by...

    Number plates

Photoblocker sold on the internet. It's a transparent spray that reflects the flash of GATSO speed cameras so the number plate is un-readable. They say only 'and it's legal', what they don't say is 'it's legal to use'. So to my question, is its USE legal or not? Any police officers out...

Thanks Slippyr4. I'm not doing it an electrician is when refit done but I wanted to make sure the necessary bonding was done. Now I know I can check he's covered everything. Yes! a big bungalow, has electronic gates, a drive that long it takes 20mins to get to the bungalow ...... then I...

    Earth bonding

I have been told that earth bonding now only needs to be done at the entry points of gas and water. Gas pipe in meter box is bonded but the water feed into the far side [about 4miles from the elec meter box] of the property isn't, it's plastic in to a metal stopcock and the feeds around the...

SORRY TO PUT THE DAMPERS ON IT BUT THE FOLLOWING HAS BEEN LAW SINCE JAN 1st 2005 Does Part P Apply To Me? Part P applies to all electrical installation work carried out in dwellings. However, you do not need to tell your local authority's Building Control...

    Trend Router Bits

I must add to this we've all cut nails and or screws. Firstly I pass all cuts from 4mm deep in 2mm passes it make the bit stay sharper longer as it doesn't struggle through the timber. Unless I am going to do lots of routing I use the £15 bit sets from DIY stores but lots of cuts I purchase...

Damp patch in wall, just below ceiling. Help!

Sounds like a cracked, broken or slipped tile/slate. You say the facia and guttering are forward from the building so I assume it has a soffit board underneath or it's an open soffit. Look in the attic and see if you can see daylight further up from the damp patch on the ceiling. also feel the...

Has method of bonded Earthing changed?

Has earth bonding been changed? I have been informed that it is now only required to have the gas and water feeds into the property earth bonded. Gas pipe at meter carries earth cable but the water feed in is plastic with no bonding. All internal water pipes are copper.

    which scaffold?

Get a scaffolding hire company to errect it as well. I think you'll have a job to get one that will supply for self errect as there is an art in knowing what to put where in the line of bracers, pudlocks and stabilizing supports/strutts. I doubt they hire towers to reach high enough for a stack.

Flat felt roof joining with tiled roof

As Nige F says strange set up. Any chance of pictures? I can't fathom out how the flat roof is joined to your pitched roof. You say flat roof joins yours which is a pitch roof. Do you mean that the roof is pitched but the profile of the covering is 'FLAT' ie: boarded with a felt covering...

HELP! Water running out from under mantle...

What are you like on ladder work? it could be the chimney hasn't been sealed of at roof level, or the top has not been closed in around the pots if they're similar construction to ours in UK. Friends had tarmac put down in their front yard to park their car on and off they went to the...

Covering the cavity below a kitchen window

I closed all the ones I did with roof slate bedded on 5-1 mix mortar, that's 5 sand 1 cement. Float over the slate a level layer of mortar about 22mm thick. Let it dry thoroughly then away you go and tile it. The way to stop cement going off too quick and crazing on a porous wall...

    planning permission

My advice as a retired builder who has had many dealing with surveyors don't take the p....s out of them or you'll regret it. If they see you are taking it out of them they will insist on inspections of every inch/cm measurement and come un-announced. They are very amicable, go back to...

    air bricks

Jbonding is right I've just been discussing it with the neighbour, he had his done in the summer and he now swears the house is warmer, and he's got a bl....y big house, I mean big and bank balance to boot. Don't seal them permanent you'll be sorry if the room/s start dripping with...

Is this render causing all my damp problems (with pics!)

If four companies have said the same thing you bet hacking off the rendering won't cure the problem. Neither can a builder unless he's a damp proof specialist a well as a builder. All of it what's specialist treatment of DPC fluid injected in the walls and damproofing fluid added to the...

    Horrible chimney

To start with he's breaking the law if you live in a smokeless zone as all solid fuel fires must burn smokeless fuel, for example anthracite. Have you approached him to tell him what's happening ? as he may be unaware of the 'nuisance' problem this has caused. Let's give him a...

    damp patches

You're gonna hate me and stick pins in an effigy if you knew what I look like. Sounds very much like the cement haunching on the chimney stack is badly cracked around the pot, unless you can act like a monkey and climb on to the roof I'm afraid it's a job for a builder. Get three...

Re-sealing a plastic soil pipe in a solid concrete floor

If you haven't done it yet. Clear out about 30mm deep the loose gravel and apply cold lay pitch then apply the hemp pressing it down as hard as you can around the pipe assuming there is room at the back of the pipe to do this then coat in layers to fill the gap. I won't guarantee it but it...

Rendering wall - costs and problems if not done?

IF nothing like damp is showing inside then leave it for finer weather as by your description it is on the chimney stack walling. If you don't mind heights then why not try it yourself in the spring hire the tower with integral ladder [you climb from the inside to each section.] Get a mate...
