Does this single garage lintel sound sensible?

Hi I currently have a lintel that is D230mm x H160mm It across a single garage. It has cracked and needs to be replaced. The builder has said he cannot get a lintel that is 230mm Deep. He therefore proposes to bolt together TWO 115mm deep timber posts. The lintel has nothing above it...

Water Supply - Neighbour Tee'd off from supply

Thanks. I changed my supply from the meter to my property to a new pipe. I think, from the mains there is One supply pipe Just before each stop cock, I think this supply splits in two. As its One supply from the mains, serving Two properties, I think next doors 5 flats just draws more water...

Victorian Cornice Repair - What Product

Nothing at all. Just wondered if when doing plaster repairs thats the best thing to use or not. Ie Strongest bond and how light it is. For example Gripfill I think would be the wrong thing for this job. Also wondered if it expanded at all on drying.

Victorian Cornice Repair - What Product

OK..... I wouldn't want to put screws in it now, as it might just split and break. Also, I could just screw into lath, which would be pointless. What's stuck to thr ceiling is stuck solid. As I said, if it comes down when building works being, so be it. I just want to make it as secure as...

Victorian Cornice Repair - What Product

Hi The previous owners were awful at property maintenance and it appears that an overflowing gutter left for years has caused this section of Cornice to get damp. It now has a crack running a couple of metres. The gap isn't too large. I'd like to try and save it. We are having work done...

Help Calculating Soil Fall within Joist

Thank you very much for looking into that for me. Really appreciate all the help I'm getting on here. OK, so back to 110mm but, with a significantly shallower fall of 9mm, as its two bathrooms connected. Strangely enough, that means I've got enough fall even on the 7m run 7" joist = 177mm...

Help Calculating Soil Fall within Joist

That combined with the (hopefully) shorter run should work. Is there any disadvantage to using an 82mm waste. It will have two bathrooms being fed into it. Though, I doubt both will see much use.

Help Calculating Soil Fall within Joist

Think I might have to run it on a shorter run, in between the "wrong" joists, then do a few turns outside.

Help Calculating Soil Fall within Joist

Damn. Nothing is ever simple is it! I can't shorten the run. I'm using the space in the Eaves to run the soil above and across the joists. As then I can drop the soil between the correct two joists, to line up with the exterior. The AAV at the start of a 6.5m run, doesn't lessen the need for...

Help Calculating Soil Fall within Joist

My rudimentary maths is... 7" joist = 177mm Soil Pipe = 110mm Leaving 67mm for fall. Min fall is 18mm per meter 18mm x 7m run = 126mm I'm therefore lacking 59mm of fall. Is that right? If so, is there any way to run a soil with less of a fall? Or are my calculations completely wrong! Thanks

Help Calculating Soil Fall within Joist

Hi Guys If you'd seen my scribblings on a piece of paper you'd laugh. Please can someone with a few more braincells help! Toilet is to be on Upper Floor of house Soil Pipe must be run along joists, it cannot drop into ceiling below. Joists are 7 inches deep Soil Run is max 7 metres (likely...

New Water Supply 25mm or 32mm

Thanks very much. Makes sense to me. Also eases much concern, so thanks. I was wondering how to benefit from the increased 25mm. Would this make sense. 22mm or 25mm - To Unvented Cylinder. - From Unvented Cylinder to 3 showers/bath - Stepping it down to 15mm as close as possible to the...

New Water Supply 25mm or 32mm

Thanks all. A question on the below post please... I'm sure the above answers my question, but I don't think I've enough between my ears to fully understand your post! Am I right in that what you are saying is... - if all pipework from the Main to the Pavement Point is 25mm - then...

New Water Supply 25mm or 32mm

Hi All I see this has been covered before, and I've searched, but grateful for a bit of advice. Thames Water have been renewing the mains and pipes, up to the pavement stop cock. Everything is new. I went a spoke to a couple of the blokes working for Thames Water doing the work in the...

Gutter overflow in heavy downpour - overflow protector?

Thanks. Trouble is trying to build it on the ground, then making sure it doesn't foul the clips when trying to seat it.
